* A shell given a directory is not taken to be in this process's before it has ↵Gabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | spoken, so it logs no rename to the session's and back Each host read /proc/<pid>/cwd right after forking the shell and at every frame after; before the shell's chdir that says this process's directory, a rename to it, then the real one a frame later, a rename back. A shell given a directory is named by it already (newShell) and is no longer asked at fork; and until it has printed anything, an answer naming this process's directory is not taken. * A new terminal's greeting `ls` goes at its shell's first prompt or neverGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | The greeting waited for any moment the cursor sat at a prompt's input, so where the first prompt was missed (a resize still pending, a line written before it), `ls` was typed later into whatever ran then. It is now sent only while nothing has run (pardes's marks saw no command start) and nothing is typed at the prompt; past that it is dropped, never typed late. A prompt drawn again for a resize is still the first. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* A rename alone does not make a pane dirtyGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | Any rename marked the pane dirty (saved revision one back), while the guards ask only whether its text was ever edited: /index said dirty for a pane Exit let go without asking. The name is no edit now, so /index, the guards and Restore agree; Save writes under the new name all the same. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* A Save whose write fails changes nothing: not the name, not the dirty flagGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | A scratch took its new name before the host wrote it, so `Save /root/x.txt` failing with EACCES renamed it anyway; a failed write to another name marked a clean file dirty. A scratch is now named once its write is done (promoteSaved), and a failed write puts the saved revision back. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>

| * G5: lapis, 0x4200.cafe's manuscript, as a theme with its ornamentGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A native theme `lapis` (src/themes/lapis.zig) from web/theme/lapis.css: a lapis-deep page, lapis tags with gold names, vellum text, vermilion rubrics, gold rules and a vermilion tag rule, gold selection in lapis ink. Its ornament is the theme's new `decor` (colors.Decor), drawn by a pixel shell inside the chrome it already has (decision 1), all of it off every focus indicator: - page_dots: the site's gold dot grid (#e8c46a22, 22 px), drawn by the cell shader on page-coloured cells alone (flag 0x10000000), so it lies under the text and never under a selection, a tag or the cursor; fixed to the window, a page the panes lie on. - rail_checker: the dither frame's gold and lapis checker in the scroll track (a decor kind, flag 0x08000000), anchored to its rail; the thumb stays solid gold. - tag plaques (tag_border, tag_shadow, tag_stripe): every tag a raised plaque inside its own band, the site's trail: a 2px gold frame and a hard 5px vermilion shadow down and right, both within the band's rows and columns (down, what the slack under the text leaves), so no shadow reaches a body, a grip or the next pane. The focused pane's plaque is the code window's title bar, gold and lapis stripes of 2px, its words on plates of the focused ground; unfocused ones are plain; column and workspace tags take the object-label language (1px frame, 2px shadow toward the page). Drawn as decor under the cells (a group's under range), with blank tag cells see-through and the cells blended premultiplied (pipeline_over) on such frames; opaque windows only. - title_shadow: the titles' vermilion offset shadow under a file name's letters, sampled in the cell shader inside the letters' own cells (flag 0x08000000), none on a cursor. Chrome carries the decor (decor_*, name_ink, active_name_ink); a theme file folds a nested decor literal field by field. Left out, with why, in docs/effects.md: the fonts, the ornaments, a decor crossfade, and in the tty anything but the colours (a tag row has no spare cell for a shadow). An empty column is the page. The effect id is masked to 27 bits (ui.vert/ui.frag) for the fifth flag. Tests: the cell flags land only on page ground and file-name cells, never a cursor, nothing without decor; lapis's plaques stay inside their tag's band, clear of every grip, only the focused one striped; its checker is in the track; no other theme draws any; the separator and focus tests cover lapis. Goldens: theme and themesel (the ring gains lapis after acme). Gates as G4. Feel review: .scratch/render/lapis/ (lapis.png, lapis-2x.png, tags-focused-vs-unfocused-2x.png, a PanelSlide at 60 fps and a quarter).
| * Rules and chrome scale with the display's density; dark pages get visible ↵Gabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | separators and focus tints Density: dp() in gui.zig draws every size given in pixels in logical pixels (SDL's window display scale, rounded, at least one), as acme scales Border, ButtonBorder and Scrollgap: the rules (rule_px), the tag rule, the grip's ring, its dirty gap and mode bars, the rail's gap to the text and its minimum, the thumb's inset, the rim, a bar cursor's minimum width, underline and strikethrough thickness (the atlas is dropped on a scale change), the rule-grab margin, and the Crt's scanline and mask periods (pardesScale in the post prefix). Cell- and tagline-measured sizes stay: the rail's width, Lift's blur and offsets, every motion; iResolution, fragCoord and iMouse stay in the display's pixels, as ghostty's. PARDES_TEST_SCALE forces a density in a harness (a test window is 1x otherwise, whatever display it lands on) and sizes the test font with it. Colours: a separator that stands off its page by less than 1.5:1 is lifted toward the text to 1.6:1 (helix, atelier, paper; a theme with no page, dark, is judged against #121212), and empty_col follows it. forge's own rule already stands at 3.83:1; what hid it was density: 2 device pixels on a 3x screen, now 6 (dp). A focused tag's tint closer than 1.5:1 to the plain tag on a dark page (1.25:1 on a light one) is pushed further the way it leans, as far as its text keeps its own contrast or 4.5: forge 1.23 -> 1.51 (#2d3440 -> #374253), and likewise dusk, orchard, ink, lagoon, clay, harvest, spectrum, solarium, forge_soft; daybreak, atelier, paper to 1.25. dark and helix gain a tint of their own (dark: #484566 under #c8c8c8, 1.54:1; helix: ramp 237 under 250, 1.65:1). Tag caret: past a full row's end, the G3 glide box sits on the tag's right edge, where the layer's caret and the pixel shell's are. Tests: every native theme's separator >= 1.5 and every dark one has a tint >= 1.25 with readable text; forge keeps its own border; the tag caret glide box at a full row; at 2x the spine, tag rule, ring, rail start and gap, and bar cursor double. Legacy-ThemeFile test strips helix's new pair. Goldens: snapshot goldens change in colour rows only, the tints (orchard #283a2f -> #314738 at boot, forge, helix and dark in theme/themesel). GUI goldens: the harness's single Del of the renamed wide pane is refused since ysqnkyoy (a rename counted as unsaved; fixed on the 9P line in wkzlsqvy), so scenes 09-17 were recorded with that pane open and the file was stale since the merge (08 and 18 also moved with ykvnltvs's full-row tag wrap). The goldens here were recorded with that pane closed (as wkzlsqvy will close it); against the parent's binary under the same conditions they differ only in the tints: 01-13 forge's (#2d3440 -> #374253, and the glyph edges on it), 14 ink's; 15-18 are byte-identical. Until wkzlsqvy is merged, a run here fails 09-17. Each commit reproduces its own recorded goldens on this machine (checked at kvtmqkyn). A test window is 1x unless PARDES_TEST_SCALE says otherwise, whatever display it opens on. Prebuilt shaders refreshed from their sources. Captures: .scratch/render/dark-borders/{before,after,compare,scale2,scale3}.
* | A detached session no frontend has sized is 160x50, not 80x24Gabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | At 80x24 a script's third or fourth pane/new was refused for want of rows. `size` still sets any other size, and a frontend attaching its own. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | Mount dials its peer at once and fails if none answers; a peer out of reach ↵Gabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | is said as `dial failed: <reason>` Mount took any well-formed dial and nothing was found out until the first look through it, which then said `look: look: dial`. Mount now probes the peer (version, attach, its root) with the turn out, and fails its write, mounting nothing, when none answers; the dial errors read as words, `no answer`, `timed out`, `hung up`, and a look through a peer gone since names its path: `look: /n/peer/f: dial failed: no answer`. * | A look that goes to another pane leaves the looking pane's dot aloneGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Every look that found something cleared the looker's selection first, so `@p5:2` or `f.txt:2` written to a pane's look collapsed its dot to q1-1. Only a look that stays in the pane starts from a clean selection now; one that goes elsewhere takes away just the click's highlight, and a miss changes nothing, as acme's look does. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | A terminal keeps its tag and two body rows through drags, squeezes and a ↵Gabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | smaller window A terminal of one body row loses its prompt's mark and reads busy for ever. Placement already refused to make one that short; now layout never leaves one there either: a grip drag stops at the floor, and a column squeezed by weights or by the window takes the rows from its other panes. Text panes keep acme's way and can still be dragged to their tag, since acme has no terminals to follow. The shrinktag, splitparent and cornerdrag goldens are re-recorded for it, shrinktag's re-grab moved to where the grip now is. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | A pty/ctl winsize gives a terminal two rows at least, so it no longer reads ↵Gabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | busy for ever A one-row pty loses the prompt's input mark as soon as the prompt wraps, and busy detection never sees the shell idle again. Placement already keeps a new terminal at tag + 2 rows; a winsize write now keeps the pty at two. A pane dragged down to one body row keeps a one-row pty, since a taller pty than the pane shows would put its cursor below the pane. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | One rule for failing builtins: the write fails, one err, no msgGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A builtin that failed through a ctl failed the write and logged its err, but through look, exec, tagexec or a column's exec it only said so on the message row, logged as a msg, and the write succeeded. Now every click write runs its builtin as a ctl line does (ctl.captured): a failure fails the write, with its words (EINVAL for malformed input, else EIO or what the words name), logs one err and no msg or announcement. get's Modified and a look miss are shown but logged once, as their err. A control character's refusal names its reason, a failed click reads back nothing, and look never reads back a pane closed since. The special case for a cut-short Edit through exec goes (the rule covers it); fs.md's table of exceptions becomes the one rule, as does the skill. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | @p names a pane by its serial, as /index and the log doGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A +Search row for a pane with no path (a terminal's), a jump list row and a line-number look said @p<slot>, the pane's place in the core's table, which no client can see. They now say @p<serial>, and @p resolves a serial. Re-recorded by name, their diffs checked: jumps, ttylook and psearch (whose waits now say @p1) for @p<serial>, and with them argv, nested, reflow, tinywin, ttyhelp and ttyonly for the boot scratch now named <cwd>/+New (the change before). * | /commands takes each word's own doc comment, whole, without citationsGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Repl showed Joincol's first line and Joincol another's, because a comment had drifted above the wrong declaration in builtins.zig; Kill's was cut mid-sentence and Exit's cited exec.c:892. The drifted line is back on Joincol, a parenthesis citing source (.c, .zig) is dropped, and the first sentence is kept whole up to 240 bytes, then cut between words with an ellipsis. A test checks every description opens its own word's comment. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | /commands says what each word does, and that the root's ctl takes EditGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A /commands line gave a word, its argument and root or pane, but not what it does, and called Edit a pane's word though the root's ctl takes it too. Each line now ends with -- and the first sentence of the word's doc comment (read from builtins.zig itself, so there is one copy), and Edit is both. fs.md says a pane's word such as Undo or Msg is refused at the root. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | A looked word selects its next place in its own pane, as acme's look3Gabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A plain word looked at (a look write, a right click, an ML record written back) opened another identically named +Search pane each time, until the panes ran out, and never wrapped. As acme's look3 searches the text for it (look.c:210), it now selects the word's next place in that pane after the dot, wrapping at the end, and opens nothing. LookWord list, a new root setting, keeps the +Search listing (search is the default); the rsearch snapshot and an output test that walk the listing say LookWord list. (The leader-path check over every builtin gets a comptime branch quota, as one more builtin took the GUI build past the default.) Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | A file changed on disk never reloads over unsaved editsGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A watched file rewritten on disk was loaded over a buffer's unsaved edits and its dirty flag cleared, so Exit and Del no longer asked about them. A clean buffer still reloads; one with edits keeps its text and stays dirty, says <file> changed on disk (get reloads it, Save overwrites it), logs changed <serial>, and its Save warns once before overwriting the newer file, as acme's Put refuses a file modified since read (exec.c:577); get asks as ever (winclean, exec.c:513). The restored-watch test's dirty case now keeps the snapshot, and the filewatch snapshot script (re-recorded by name) checks both halves: the edited pane keeps its edit and says so, the clean one reloads. * | A multi-line paste into Python's REPL runs whole, back at its promptGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The Enter went on Python's first output after the paste, before it had taken in the whole paste, and one Enter leaves a multi-line input at ... anyway. Python's output now only restarts a 100 ms quiet wait (the 250 ms fallback stays), and a paste of more than one line gets the second Enter a block gets. fs.py runs print(11)\nprint(22), the same with a trailing newline, and a for block followed by a statement in a real python3, each back at >>>. * | pty/run's busy names the program holding the terminalGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | busy said only that something ran. Where the host can tell (Linux, the tty's foreground group's /proc comm, a new fg_name host call), it says busy: <program> is running; elsewhere, busy as before. The GUI's host gains the one small callback (render agent's file: gui.zig, fgName). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | size says its limits, keeps every pane its rows, and ptys follow their panesGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | size refused an out-of-range line without saying the range, took a size too small for the panes (leaving bodies of no rows), and a terminal squeezed to its tag kept a pty of its old size. The refusal now names 20x6 to 4096x4096 (a bare size is EINVAL like any malformed line), a size that would leave any pane less than its tag and 2 rows is refused and undone, and a terminal's pty is resized with its pane down to one row (only a folded or unplaced one keeps its grid). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | Tty and Shell refuse a directory: not a shellGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A directory passes access(X_OK), so Tty /etc made a pane whose shell exited 127 and Shell /etc was taken. The shell lookup now refuses a directory, and both say "not a shell: /etc is a directory" (Tty and Shell share one refusal, host_io.Shell.refusal). shellset's golden takes the shared wording (re-recorded by name). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | A REPL paste's Enter waits on the clock, not on stale core timeGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | sendToRepl timed the Enter's fallback from stepped_ns, which in an idle detached session is as old as the last frame: the wait was over before it began and the \r went out with the paste, which 3.13's REPL then reads as part of it (4 of 5 sends lost their Enter). The wait now starts from the host's clock and is checked against now_ns; the REPL's echo of the paste still sends it sooner, and the wake is scheduled for the deadline. fs.py sends five times after two idle seconds each in a real pty. * | A detached session with no frontend takes its size from the root ctlGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A --detach session nobody is attached to stayed 80x24, too small for an agent's panes, and nothing could change it. The root ctl takes size <cols> <rows> while no frontend is attached (refused while one owns the size), and a client that attaches later still sets its own (the server compares with the core's size). Documented with the 80x24 default. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | Shell refuses a name that is no executable, and bare restores the defaultGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Shell took any word and the host quietly ran another shell at the next spawn. It now refuses a path or name that is not executable ("Shell: x: no executable by that name", failing a ctl write, logged err), a bare Shell goes back to the default, and a default $SHELL that is not executable falls back to /bin/sh. shellset's golden takes the refusal on the message row (re-recorded by name). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | No placement leaves a pane shorter than its tag and two rowsGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Placement could split a pane down to a tag and one row, or give a new one less. Every placement now checks the pane it made and each pane it shrank against its tag (wrapped at its width) plus two rows: where they lack the room, the column's tallest pane is halved instead, and where none can give it the new pane is refused with "no space for a pane in that column" (ENOSPC over 9P) and closed at the step's end, once its maker is done with it. splitBelow and splitParent leave two body rows (a boot layout, split before any row exists, is as before). Re-recorded by name: lookpanes (panes one or two rows lower) and splitparent (the 6-row squeeze now refuses); fs.py closes the scratches and long-named panes it no longer needs, since its 24-row session filled. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | The default Shell is $SHELL, else /bin/shGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | With no Shell set, pardes ran fish, which a box may not have and a user may not use. The default is now the user's login shell ($SHELL), else /bin/sh; an explicit Shell still overrides it. The tests pin their own shell (snapshots bash, the python suites /bin/sh or bash) and pass with SHELL unset; the Config report and docs say where the default comes from. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | A command line cut across writes runs once whole, and look/exec answer per openGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A mount cuts a write at its message size, and each piece ran on its own: a line cut at the boundary ran as shell commands and a 50 KB Edit block broke. An open of look, exec, tagexec, any ctl or a column's exec now keeps an unfinished last line, or an Edit block still open, until its next write or its release, and never runs a fragment. The same open record holds what its last write touched, which a read on it answers (as /net/tcp/clone does); an open that never wrote reads the session's last as of its open. A release that runs a held line waits for quiet and counts as a change; a clicked line with a control character is still refused at its write. Tested in unit tests, fs.py (python client, 8 KiB) and selfmount.py (the kernel mount, a 1000-line seq burst and a 50 KB Edit block). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | The workspace tag has /tagexec, every exec file reads back what it touched, ↵Gabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | and a tag's words log as the session's /tagexec runs a word as a click in the workspace tag, as col/<serial>/exec does in a column's. A column's exec was write-only; it and /tagexec now read back the serials the last write touched, as /exec does. A click in a tag no longer goes to the focused pane's event reader, and what a word run from a column's ctl or exec or /tagexec says is logged msg -, not against the focused pane. The README, fs.md and the skill say so, and document the answer record. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | The look walk goes on from a restored dot both waysGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | After a Restore the dot came back on the match it was on, but N stayed on that match instead of wrapping to the last as it does live: the walk remembers the spot it landed on (look_at), and a restored pane has none, so it stood at the cursor, the selection's end, and found the match it was in. A one-row selection now counts as where the walk stands, from its start and past it either way, as a landed spot does. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | The GUI goldens take the full-width tag wrapGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Frames 08 and 18 changed with the tag wrapping at the full width (a tag that exactly fills a row stays one row): 08's wide-glyph tag fits one more glyph on its first row, so its second row starts a glyph later; 18's two wrapped tags break one character later. Re-recorded with gui_golden.py --update; every other frame matches as it was. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>

| * | The QUIC listener tests are deterministic, and fs-test --quic passesGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | "Unix TCP and QUIC share one listener" failed 17 of 360 runs under load (12 parallel copies), always at p.fs.opens: the client had hung up but its connection's task had not yet seen it, reset() then cut the connection, and the releases the hangup owes were refused as the old editor's. The test's replacement editor is the same editor, so those opens stayed. It now waits (resting, with its own deadline) for the runner to empty before reset: 0 of 360 after. fs-test -Dquic=true failed too, at two points. A session Looking at its own tree through a QUIC mount is features.txt's documented "left as they are" case (QUIC is answered on the editor's thread); that check is dropped with a note. The /screen check asserted body text that the view may have scrolled past (2 of 7 runs); it now asserts the pane's tag. 10 of 10 after. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
| * | The web harness Looks through the touch fixture its documented dump holdsGabriel Schneider4 days
| |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | test/web_harness.mjs still expected source-list.dump.zon (a git ls-files listing of the live tree), which posxwrksryvw deleted for capturing project paths; the documented invocation embeds touch.dump.zon, so the scroll check could never match. The harness now scrolls the fixture to its first row, right-click Looks /virtual/pane/1/body and checks the reflected body opens with Tree-sitter styles. A stale test, not a product bug. * | Restore keeps each pane's dot, as acme's dump doesGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A restored text pane came back with its caret at its view's top, whatever had been selected. The dump now keeps each text pane's dot, q0 and q1 as acme's keeps a window's, and Restore puts it back without moving the view it kept. Two look-walk tests that restored and walked on now start from the match they were on. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | A column has a ctl, an exec and an rmdir over 9P, and Restore maps its serialGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A script could read and write a column's tag but not act on the column. col/<serial>/ctl takes Delcol, Joincol, New and Tty, each acting on that column as from its tag; col/<serial>/exec runs a word as a middle click in the tag; rmdir col/<serial> closes an empty column and refuses one with panes (ENOTEMPTY, an err record saying why). The root ctl's refusal of Delcol and Joincol points at col/<serial>/ctl. A dump keeps each column's serial and Restore logs restoredcol <old> <new>; the dump golden gains them. Documented: Joincol's survivor, the column on the right, keeps its serial and tag. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | A pane's last row of text is no resize handle; the grip is, and the GUI's ruleGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A press on a pane's last row began a seam drag, so the row could not be clicked or swept like the rest of the text (rsearch dragged the handle out of the way first). Now no row of text is a handle: in the GUI a press on the 2 px rule between two panes drags their seam, and anywhere the grip does, as acme's button moves a window -- dragged up or down its own column it moves the pane's top, either pane down to its tag alone (acme's coldragwin), dragged down inside itself too. The hover hint over a last row is gone; column edges resize as they did. Scripts that dragged a seam drag a grip instead and match their goldens; six goldens lost the hint or moved a cursor to the clicked text, re-recorded by name. * | The tree serves the layout: /layout, /tag and /col/<n>/tagGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A script could not see where the panes sit or edit the tags a person clicks in. /layout lists each column, its index, x and width in cells, current or not, empty or full, and its panes' serials, then the active column; /tag is the workspace tag and /col/<n>/tag a column's, read and written as a pane tag is (one line: a newline written in is a space, and a truncating write drops the one ending it); /index's lines end with the pane's column; the log says newcol <n> and delcol <n>. acme serves no column files, and the docs say so. * | A dump keeps the settings changed from a fresh session's, and Restore sets themGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A session running with Placement pardes came back from Restore as acme: a dump kept the layout and the theme but no setting. It now keeps every setting line that differs from a fresh session's, as the root ctl reads it, and a Restore applies them; the theme stays where it was kept, the font the frontend's, and REPL bindings are still dropped. The dump golden gains the three the snapshot harness sets. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | A send to Python's REPL runs once, the Enter after the paste, not in itGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A one-line send (print(1)) to Python 3.14 stopped at ... and needed another Enter: its REPL takes a bracketed paste, and an Enter read in the same read as the paste is part of the paste, one line or not (checked in a real pty). Into a REPL that asked for bracketed paste, the Enters (two for an open block) now wait for its next output, its answer to the paste, or 250 ms with nothing. fs-test runs python3 in a real pty and checks a one-line exec prints at once; the docs' pty/data recipe says to send the Enter apart. * | fs-test checks an unattended detached session expires its messages on its ownGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Round 7 saw messages linger for minutes in a detached session. With nothing attached they do expire, on the session's own clock (nextWake schedules the look, expireUnattended drops them); the merge did not regress it, and a session driven only over 9P now has a test that it does, with no request in between. With a frontend attached a message stays until its next key or click, as config.md and detached.md say; the lingering the agent saw is that. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | A tag that exactly fills its row stays one row, as acme's doesGabriel Schneider4 days
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Tags wrapped one cell early to keep a cell for the caret past a full row, so a tag that exactly filled its column broke as De / l. acme's frame wraps a box only when it is wider than what the row has left, and frptofchar clamps the tick past a full line's end to the frame's edge. Tags now wrap at their full width; the caret past a full row sits at the tag layer's edge, and on the pane's last cell in a terminal grid, which has none past it. Two tiny-screen tests collapse their tags, as the others do, and the 41 goldens that moved were re-recorded by name after the same check: rows shift back up under the shorter tags and nothing else changes. chordcut's file-body clicks moved back with them. | | * Motion flavours differ by design, and drive notice drops and pane movesGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The flavours looked alike because Lift, the only motion that read them, moves a shadow a few pixels: overshoot and wind-up were sub-pixel. By design now: crisp leaves at full speed and never passes its mark; smooth (the default) eases in and out in twice crisp's time, a slide arriving in 208 ms (inside §8.1's 220); bouncy passes its mark by ~30% and settles twice; playful winds up, passes by ~40%, and stretches and squashes, text included (the user's choice). Small motions are exaggerated by the flavour's gain. Motion gains launch, gain, span and norm, and ease(u)/speed(u) for moves of fixed length. The notice drop follows ease() over its fall (alpha never behind its position) and stays inside its pane's body past its row. Panel tracks carry the flavour in Track.motion (the old padding byte; macOS header name follows); opening and moving slides, zooms and rises follow it over span x their frames; landed, a pane is exactly its target; closing keeps its own exit. A pane past its mark never takes a neighbour's click; a rising one stays in its box. Tests: each flavour's lift trajectory distinct; flavour character; exact landing bit for bit; a stretched pane's drawn cells map back; the overshoot hit rule; the vertical clip at peak; legacy tests pinned to crisp. GUI golden 18-mid-transition changes (the retuned smooth slide at frame 6). | | * acme looks like acme; every theme gets acme's button, scroll column and 2px ↵Gabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | rules acme takes plan9port's own colours (acme.c iconinit, draw.h): selections #eeee9e in the body and #9eeeee in the tag, black ink; exec and look sweeps #aa0000 and #006600, white ink; a #99994c scrollbar under a #ffffea thumb; black rules; a #8888cc tag/body rule and column button. Every theme: the grip is acme's button, its tag row's full height, in one scroll column with the scrollbar (rail_px, 12 at a 17px tagline, scaled, times GripWidth, a percent, default 150; same x0/x1 to the pixel): focused clean = solid box; focused dirty = box_dirty filled to a box ring (acme's modbutton); unfocused clean = a box_border ring round the tag's ground; unfocused dirty = box_dirty a pixel inside that ring. The grid, which has no ring, marks dirty with a bold * on box_dirty in the grip's second cell and fills an unfocused grip halfway to its ring. Regions carry a dirty flag. Column buttons are the same shape, solid. 2px rules between columns and stacked panes (inside the tag band's slack), none at the window edge; a 1px tag/body rule halfway between tag and page. Theme data: tag_sel_bg, sweep_bg/fg, tag_rule, rule_px, rail_px, box_border, box_dirty. Chrome: rule_px, tag_rule, rail_px, grip_border, grip_focus_ring; a comptime guard on Chrome's layout forces a wire bump once v8 ships. Structural rules are exempt from the focus-indicator rule (docs/effects.md). Tests: acme widths; stacked rule in the slack at two tagline sizes; every grip-column pixel is band, button, ring or rule, and the button shares the scrollbar's x0/x1 (4 metrics x top/bottom x focus x dirty); the four grip states distinct in every native theme with a non-colour dirty cue in the grid; wire round-trip of the new fields. | | * A multi-row tag shows its grip on the first row only, as acme's buttonGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Rows under the first are the tag band's fill (the focused tint when the pane is focused), for pane tags and column tags alike, on every shell, since each draws the grid's cells. The grip region still spans every tag row, so a press there grabs the pane, as a press anywhere in acme's button column does (acme.c: t->scrollr is the tag's full height). GUI goldens 12-18 change only in the grip rows under the first.
| | * Motion flavours, and Lift is shadow, rim or auto: auto on a dark page ↵Gabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | recedes the other panes (InactiveDim) Motion off|crisp|smooth|bouncy|playful is one parameter set (animation.Motion) every fx animation reads. One focus spring per pane drives both the lift and the dim, at the flavour's pace; a grid snaps. Lift drops glow and surface. A shadow falls on pane bodies and rails only, capped so text and the selection keep min(contrast, 4.5); rim is a hairline along the focused tag's top. auto is a shadow on a light page; on a dark page the core recedes the unfocused panes' text (InactiveDim, ported from 2e4d97f, default 30 under auto) with the same floor. Tests: focused text contrast is never below unfocused in any style, dim or theme; the focused pane's cells and tag are untouched by a dim. | | * zig build monkey: random snapshot scripts hunting panicsGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | test/monkey.zig (Zig, as the project's tooling is): one random .snap per seed, over bad-UTF-8, wide-glyph and long files: keys, leader bursts, typing (an alphabet with no path characters), workspace words run by a middle click (Newcol for narrow panes, Find and Grep for prompts, long prompt text), presses, drags, wheel, hover, and resizes down to a cell. pardes-snap runs it with --update; a panic is a record in the app's crash file (in the script's fake home: seen even when the crash cut the script short) or a `.zig:N:N: 0x` frame of the app's (not the harness's) in its report or captured grid, and a hit keeps the script, captures and log under --out (default /tmp/pardes-monkey). A seed always makes the same script (tested), so --from=N replays one. Not a gate. README documents it next to snap. No Shader line: the tty has no post chain; the core fuzz in src/draw.zig covers the compile-error notice at a gui's metrics. 80 seeds x 70 steps: no panic.
| * | A pane whose whole text fits in its rows never scrolls to keep a marginGabriel Schneider4 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The scroll margin reveals text; with none off screen there is nothing to reveal. ensureCursorVisible and a centred look both leave such a pane at its top. A longer file keeps helix's clamp (hxdiff and hxparity unchanged). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
