* Afterglow (G14) is removedGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | The user, looking at the lapis showcase: "one of the animations is like a flashing on the whole pane or something, that is really bad, just remove it". Every changed cell glowing meant a pane whose whole text changed (a file opened, a +Search refilled, a terminal's output) lit up at once: replacing a pane's text took its mean brightness from 38 to 70 and back over 250 ms. Gone like Ripple and Glitch: the builtin, the setting, its Chrome fx bit, the GUI's diff state and decor, the test, and the docs, which keep the user's words.

| * Shader files compile again on save; an attached GUI runs the session's post ↵Gabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | chain shader_build.zig takes the Shadertoy compile out of the GUI's Post: the process that holds the core compiles each chain file behind the prefix on a thread, watches its directory (file_watch's new shader slots), and on a change reads and hashes each file, compiling only one whose bytes moved. A failed compile keeps the last good SPIR-V and is said once; the same bytes are never compiled or reported twice. A file is read with std, not fs.zig's readFile, whose turn hand-off a worker thread does not hold. A detached session compiles for its frontends and sends them the chain (wire post: each pass's scene and level or the file's SPIR-V, and ShaderAnimation) on attach and on every change, so an attached GUI runs the same passes, levels and animation as a local one while still reading no disk and running no program. The attached GUI describes its frames to the chain from the session's chrome and redraws an animating chain on its own.
| * T7: the scroll thumb flashes as a terminal pane scrollsGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | ThumbFlash (off by default) brightens a body's scroll thumb toward the ink when its view moves and fades it back over 250 ms, truecolor only. The tty present path now clears shell_continuous once before its effects and each effect only raises it, so the trail and the flash no longer mask each other.
| * T1: ChipShadow, a terminal's notice chips cast a cell's shadowGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | ChipShadow on|off (off; the tty shell's, §9.2 T1): each notice chip casts a shadow one cell right and one down inside its own pane's body: on a blank cell a half block (▌ right, ▀ below, ▘ at the corner) in a colour 35% darker than the ground (OKLab), so the shadow is half a cell thick; under text the ground itself darkened. Never the cursor's cell, a selection, a tag or another chip; truecolor terminals only. Tests: the shadow lies right of or below the chip, never in it; nothing with it off or without truecolor. Snapshots unchanged. Feel review: .scratch/render/tty/shadow/.
| * T2: JumpTrail, a terminal cursor's jump leaves a short fading trailGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | JumpTrail on|off (off; the tty shell's, §9.2 T2): a jump of three cells or more leaves three to five cells of trail behind the cursor along its path, their ground mixed toward the text's colour in OKLab (most beside the cursor), fading out over 120 ms. Truecolor terminals only (vaxis's answer, or COLORTERM truecolor/24bit); never the cursor's own cell, a selection or anything outside the focused pane's body; none under Motion off. It rides the continuous path (Pardes.shell_continuous) while it lasts; a few cells of output a frame. docs/effects.md opens the terminal track with the audit under decision 2 (keep and polish, remove nothing). Tests: a ten-cell jump lights 3 to 5 cells behind the cursor on its row, gone by 120 ms; a one-cell step and a terminal without truecolor light none. Feel review: .scratch/render/tty/trail/ (a real tty session replayed through pyte at 60 fps).
| * G14: Afterglow, changed text glows a moment and fadesGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Afterglow on|off (off, a pixel shell's; Chrome.fx bit 4): the GUI keeps the grid it last drew and when each cell changed; a body cell whose text changed glows in the theme's accent, at most 18% and under the text's contrast floor, fading with an ease-out over 250 ms, one flat rectangle a run of cells that changed together; never a tag or a grip, the cursor or a selection; a scrolled body (its first line moved) starts over rather than lighting up whole. On the continuous path while anything glows. Tests: three changed cells glow as a run of two (the cursor's left out), gone by 250 ms, a scroll lights nothing. Gates as before; goldens byte-identical. Feel review: .scratch/render/afterglow/.
| * G13: Parallax, lapis's dots drift with the text at a quarter of its speedGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Parallax on|off (off, a pixel shell's; Chrome.fx bit 3). A body region carries its first line (Region.line, a file's scroll or a terminal's grid offset; the wire's region record grows a u32). The GUI offsets each body's page dots by a quarter of its line in rows, and of G6's glide offset while one runs, so the pattern drifts with the text and settles with it; the cell shader reads it from the instance's serial slot, whose per-cell dissolve noise G7 left unused (the dead noise code goes). Tests: a scrolled body tells its line; the shift handed to the shader is a quarter of it within the dots' period. Measured in a capture: four lines move the dots 13 px (140 px / 4 mod 22). Gates as before, goldens byte-identical. Feel review: .scratch/render/parallax/.
| * G12: Occlusion, pane bodies darkening faintly toward their edgesGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Occlusion on|off (off, a pixel shell's; Chrome.fx bit 2 — the glow bits field is now `fx`): four soft strips cast from just outside each pane body inward, clipped to the body and round a cursor, black pre-warped to linear light, 2% at most (§9.1) and under the lift's contrast ceiling, in the pane's own group. Tests: the shade stays inside the body, off the cursor, at most 2%. Gates as G11. Feel review: .scratch/render/occlusion/ (with an x40 diff).
| * G11: HoverGlow, a soft underline of light under a look-hover's wordGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | HoverGlow on|off (off, a pixel shell's; Chrome.glows bit 1, SelectionGlow bit 0 now that there are two): under the word a look-hover would open (its cells in the affordance's tint) a strip three logical pixels tall along its foot, blurred by one, in the theme's accent, at most 22% and under the text's contrast floor, fading in over 80 ms; kept to the bodies and split round a cursor. glowBlocks serves G9 and G11. The strip is cast from a row away so addSoft's caster cut-out misses it. Tests: the glow comes up by 90 ms and never falls on the cursor's cell. Gates as G10 (a loaded machine shifted the GUI goldens a scene once; a rerun matched 01-08). Feel review: .scratch/render/hover/.
* | A refusal over unsaved panes keeps its list in +Unsaved and shows a short noticeGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Exit's refusal (and Restore's, Del's, Delcol's, get's) put its full text on a notice that went: a long list of names, gone before it was read. The list now goes into one +Unsaved pane, filled again by each refusal, a row a pane (`<name>: Modified`) and the `Exit again to discard` line; the notice is short, `3 unsaved panes — Exit again to discard`. The 9P `unsaved` records and the write's err are as they were. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | files and dumps The user asked for the plainer words. Every use is renamed: the builtins, leader paths, /commands, the docs and tutor, tests, and the themesel golden, re-recorded. An init file's ThemeSel or FontSel runs the new word and says `ThemeSel: renamed to Themes`, as ColumnTags is said; a dump naming an output pane by the old word restores it. * | Recent lists the files opened lately, closed ones too, and a jump back to a ↵Gabriel Schneider39 hours
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | closed file reopens it A file closed by accident, its path forgotten, could not be found again: the jumplist dropped closed panes. Every file opened (a look, a Save of a scratch, a Restore, a rename) goes first in a list of 200, kept once, its dot noted when it closes, kept across sessions in $XDG_STATE_HOME/pardes/ recent. `Recent` (SPC f r) shows it in a reused +Recent, each row `path:line:col open|closed` a look reopens; /recent reads `open|closed <path>`. The jumplist keeps a closed file's entries, +Jumps marks them `(closed)`, and Back to one opens the file at its place. acme has no such thing; its dump and Load are the nearest. | * G9: SelectionGlow, a soft halo round the body's selectionGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | SelectionGlow on|off (off; a pixel shell's, Chrome.selection_glow): each block of selected rows in a pane body casts Lift's soft kind in the selection's own colour, the block its caster (never touched) and a cursor beside it joined to the caster; clipped to the bodies (never a tag or a grip); at most 22% (§8.2), less where the text round it would drop below min(its contrast, 4.5); fading in over 100 ms with an ease-out, on the core's continuous path (shell_continuous); none while panes move. Blocks come from the cells in the theme's selection colour (documented). Tests: the halo's colour, its clip to the body, nothing at its first frame and up to its cap after 100 ms, fading done. Gates as G8. Feel review: .scratch/render/selection/.
| * G8: a notice leaves quicker than it arrivesGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The notice chip's motion was mostly there (a drop easing out on the Motion flavour, a dissolve easing in, Lift's shadow in tier 4 at its fade). Its dissolve took 300 ms against a 180 ms fall, the wrong way round for §8.1 (leaving quicker than arriving, 100 to 160 ms): MessageDissolve now defaults to 150. The field comments had the two easings swapped; the stack test pins a longer dissolve for the case it checks. docs/config.md and docs/effects.md say so. Tests: both timings in their bands, leaving quicker. Gates as G7 (no golden moved). Feel review: .scratch/render/notices/.
| * G4: bloom, vignette and grain in the post chainGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Three bundled Shadertoy passes beside Crt, each `Bloom|Vignette|Grain 0..3` (off by default, nothing drawn while off), in shaders/post/: - Bloom: what is brighter than the page (a channel's linear peak over 0.75/0.7/0.6 and over the page's own + 0.15, so a light page does not bloom) glows, 2/3.5/5% (§8.2's budget). The glow is a dual Kawase blur in RGBA16F textures at half size and down, 3/4/5 steps by level (shaders/bloom-down, bloom-up; Post.bloomChain), composited in linear light and dithered. - Vignette: round, from halfway to a corner, 10/18/28% at the far corners, in linear light, dithered. - Grain: a still, triangular-spread grain of 1.5/3/5 of 255 on page-coloured pixels only, a logical pixel big; still, so it asks for no frames. Focus rule: the shell passes every bundled pass the rectangles of the tags with their grips, the column and workspace tags, the notices and the cursor (pardesSpare, at most 32, neighbours on one row merged), and a bundled pass leaves them as they are; and a per-theme ceiling (pardesCap, Post.capsOf) keeps the page's text and the selection's text at min(their contrast, 4.5) under each pass at its strongest. User files get no ceiling and no spared rectangles. Fix found on the way: SDL GPU binds at most 4 KiB of a uniform block, so every Shadertoy colour after iPalette (iBackgroundColor, iForegroundColor, the cursor and selection colours, iPalette[>=4]) read zero. The prefix's block is cut in three (Globals, Palette, Colors) with ghostty's names and order, each pushed as a slice of the one struct; pardes's own block moves to binding 3. Tests: the caps hold over every native theme; each uniform slice fits 4 KiB; the prefix's members in ghostty's order across its blocks. Gates: tty/gui unit-test and core-test pass; snap fails only nested-optout; GUI goldens 01-08 byte-identical (09-18 wait on wkzlsqvy, as in somtrmsz); web builds. Feel review material: .scratch/render/{bloom,vignette,grain}/ (levels on forge, dusk, acme, crops, a levels mp4).
* | Every builtin says what it does in /commands, and a test holds each to itGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 87 of the listed words had no description: settings have no doc comment to read, so each now carries a one-sentence doc, and the builtins without one got theirs. Exit's no longer names an internal function, and Repl's first sentence is short enough to be read whole. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | A looked word selects its next place in its own pane, as acme's look3Gabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A plain word looked at (a look write, a right click, an ML record written back) opened another identically named +Search pane each time, until the panes ran out, and never wrapped. As acme's look3 searches the text for it (look.c:210), it now selects the word's next place in that pane after the dot, wrapping at the end, and opens nothing. LookWord list, a new root setting, keeps the +Search listing (search is the default); the rsearch snapshot and an output test that walk the listing say LookWord list. (The leader-path check over every builtin gets a comptime branch quota, as one more builtin took the GUI build past the default.) Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | Shell refuses a name that is no executable, and bare restores the defaultGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Shell took any word and the host quietly ran another shell at the next spawn. It now refuses a path or name that is not executable ("Shell: x: no executable by that name", failing a ctl write, logged err), a bare Shell goes back to the default, and a default $SHELL that is not executable falls back to /bin/sh. shellset's golden takes the refusal on the message row (re-recorded by name). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | The default Shell is $SHELL, else /bin/shGabriel Schneider39 hours
|/ | | | | | | | | | With no Shell set, pardes ran fish, which a box may not have and a user may not use. The default is now the user's login shell ($SHELL), else /bin/sh; an explicit Shell still overrides it. The tests pin their own shell (snapshots bash, the python suites /bin/sh or bash) and pass with SHELL unset; the Config report and docs say where the default comes from. | | * G3: the focused cursor glides a jump on the Motion flavour's springs, and blinksGabriel Schneider39 hours
| |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The core owns the motion, as Lift: animation.CursorGlide keeps the focused cursor's four corners on springs (leading corners at the flavour's pace x2.4, trailing ones x follow, so a jump smears and collapses; a long jump bows by the flavour's arc), sampled at each frame's own time. A step of a cell or less, insert mode, a focus change and any scroll (a file's view, a terminal's output) land at once; a snap lands a glide under way too. The quad is clamped to the focused pane when drawn (never its springs). Chrome carries it on the wire (cursor_glide: bit 1 a cursor, bit 0 gliding; cursor_alpha; cursor_quad, grid cells; cursor_idle_ms): the GUI draws the quad as an overlay in the cursor's colour, at 85% (70% on the long flavours) rising to solid as it lands, and hides the cells' cursors while it does: one or the other every frame. Only the focused cursor glides. Blink (CursorBlink, on by default in pixel shells) is the shell's: from cursor_idle_ms and when the frame arrived, solid while typing and 500 ms after, 530 ms halves with 80 ms eased edges, solid after 10 s idle, and never while the window is unfocused or minimized or on a virtual clock. An edge redraws the last frame with no core render (level B, blink_redraws); an attached GUI blinks from the same field without a frame per edge. Tests: snaps a cell, glides a jump with smear and bow, arrives under a pixel by 150 ms on smooth and lands exactly, shifts with a scroll; blink holds, eases, stops; the core glides a jump (ge) frame by frame (gliding exactly while it moves, alpha rising, exact at rest), snaps a step (j) and a switch to insert mid-glide; a terminal's scrolling output lands its cursor; wire round-trip of the cursor record. Shared files: src/animation.zig, src/pardes.zig, src/config.zig (toggle CursorBlink), src/surface.zig, src/detached/wire.zig.
* / A choice setting's refusal names what it takes, and /commands lists themGabriel Schneider39 hours
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | Bare Placement and BootShell flip, which is pardes's convention for a word that chooses (Crt does too), but nothing said so, and "bad value in control message" never said what would do. A refused value now says `takes acme, pardes` (every switch and choice setting), /commands lists each such setting's values in a fourth field, and config.md and fs.md say that bare steps to the next. Motion and ShaderAnimation stepped nowhere bare and now step like the rest. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>

| | * Motion flavours differ by design, and drive notice drops and pane movesGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The flavours looked alike because Lift, the only motion that read them, moves a shadow a few pixels: overshoot and wind-up were sub-pixel. By design now: crisp leaves at full speed and never passes its mark; smooth (the default) eases in and out in twice crisp's time, a slide arriving in 208 ms (inside §8.1's 220); bouncy passes its mark by ~30% and settles twice; playful winds up, passes by ~40%, and stretches and squashes, text included (the user's choice). Small motions are exaggerated by the flavour's gain. Motion gains launch, gain, span and norm, and ease(u)/speed(u) for moves of fixed length. The notice drop follows ease() over its fall (alpha never behind its position) and stays inside its pane's body past its row. Panel tracks carry the flavour in Track.motion (the old padding byte; macOS header name follows); opening and moving slides, zooms and rises follow it over span x their frames; landed, a pane is exactly its target; closing keeps its own exit. A pane past its mark never takes a neighbour's click; a rising one stays in its box. Tests: each flavour's lift trajectory distinct; flavour character; exact landing bit for bit; a stretched pane's drawn cells map back; the overshoot hit rule; the vertical clip at peak; legacy tests pinned to crisp. GUI golden 18-mid-transition changes (the retuned smooth slide at frame 6). | | * acme looks like acme; every theme gets acme's button, scroll column and 2px ↵Gabriel Schneider39 hours

Every theme: the grip is acme's button, its tag row's full height, in one scroll column with the scrollbar (rail_px, 12 at a 17px tagline, scaled, times GripWidth, a percent, default 150; same x0/x1 to the pixel): focused clean = solid box; focused dirty = box_dirty filled to a box ring (acme's modbutton); unfocused clean = a box_border ring round the tag's ground; unfocused dirty = box_dirty a pixel inside that ring. The grid, which has no ring, marks dirty with a bold * on box_dirty in the grip's second cell and fills an unfocused grip halfway to its ring. Regions carry a dirty flag. Column buttons are the same shape, solid. 2px rules between columns and stacked panes (inside the tag band's slack), none at the window edge; a 1px tag/body rule halfway between tag and page. Theme data: tag_sel_bg, sweep_bg/fg, tag_rule, rule_px, rail_px, box_border, box_dirty. Chrome: rule_px, tag_rule, rail_px, grip_border, grip_focus_ring; a comptime guard on Chrome's layout forces a wire bump once v8 ships. Structural rules are exempt from the focus-indicator rule (docs/effects.md). Tests: acme widths; stacked rule in the slack at two tagline sizes; every grip-column pixel is band, button, ring or rule, and the button shares the scrollbar's x0/x1 (4 metrics x top/bottom x focus x dirty); the four grip states distinct in every native theme with a non-colour dirty cue in the grid; wire round-trip of the new fields. | | * Motion flavours, and Lift is shadow, rim or auto: auto on a dark page ↵Gabriel Schneider39 hours

One focus spring per pane drives both the lift and the dim, at the flavour's pace; a grid snaps. Lift drops glow and surface. A shadow falls on pane bodies and rails only, capped so text and the selection keep min(contrast, 4.5); rim is a hairline along the focused tag's top. auto is a shadow on a light page; on a dark page the core recedes the unfocused panes' text (InactiveDim, ported from 2e4d97f, default 30 under auto) with the same floor. Tests: focused text contrast is never below unfocused in any style, dim or theme; the focused pane's cells and tag are untouched by a dim. | | * Lift takes a style: shadow, surface, rim, glow or autoGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The user wants Lift to read on dark themes, where a shadow has nothing to darken. `Lift shadow|surface|rim|glow|auto` (`on` is auto, bare flips auto and off): surface lightens the lifted part's ground about 5.5% (Material-dark), rim is a thin soft light off its top and left edges, glow a faint halo in the theme's accent (Chrome.accent, the focused box colour), auto a shadow on a light page and surface with half a rim on a dark one (by the page's luminance). Rim and glow are the soft kernel in a light colour (no pre-warp: coloured light is laid on as is, within §8.2's budget); each style is capped per theme so text keeps min(its contrast, 4.5) (tests: darkening and lightening over the native themes). The style travels in the palette (Chrome.lift_style, one byte on the wire). Config reports and ctl reads `Lift <style>`. Shared files touched: config.zig, builtins.zig, ninep/ctl.zig, detached/wire.zig (palette byte), gui.zig. Not touched: pardes.zig, Messages.zig, mouse.zig.

The core puts the lift on the regions (Region.lift, on the wire); the GUI casts from it: a soft shadow is decor, an erf rectangle on one quad grown by 3 sigma (decor.frag, flag 0x10000000), in the quad's own space so a track's transform carries it; darken-only, the caster's rect left alone, alpha pre-warped for linear light and IGN-dithered. Cast last in its group, so a neighbour's rails and rules darken with its text; a notice's before its rule. Strength is capped per theme so text over the darkest shadow keeps min(its contrast, 4.5) (test over the native themes). Opt-in until the focus lift/dim default is decided. Feel review material: docs/effects.md. Test-mode PARDES_TEST_SERIES keeps every captured frame. Shared files touched: pardes.zig (two fields, one nextWake line), detached/wire.zig (lift on the region), config.zig, builtins.zig (capability), gui.zig. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | one undo step Over 9P a rename everywhere was a loop of addr and data writes. Edit, from a tag, a pane ctl or exec, parses sam's commands as acme's edit.c does and runs them as ecmd.c does against the text as it was, collecting the changes in order as elog.c logs them and applying them at once: addresses (the addr file's, line:col included), x y g v c a i d s p = m t, u alone, and { }. One undo step; any error, in acme's words, changes nothing, fails a ctl write and is logged. p and = print to the directory's +Errors. Left out, and said: the file commands, the pipes, \1-\9 (mvzr keeps no submatches), and changes out of sequence, which acme applies with a warning. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>

They are now pane builtins, reached from a tag, a pane ctl and exec, and listed in /commands. They are not added to the default tags, which would change every tag. | | * Ripple and Glitch are gone; Crt staysGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The user tried them live and wants them removed entirely: the builtins, their levels, config keys and leader paths (tR, tg), their slots in the built-in chain, their shaders (source and prebuilt), EffectCode paths, and on macOS their scene flags (pardes.h), the Metal kernel's coordinate warps and the Swift pointer mapping that mirrored them. Docs say so (decision 8 in docs/render-pipeline.md); config.md documents Crt's levels, Shader and ShaderAnimation instead. Shared files touched: macos.zig (flags). Not touched: pardes.zig, Messages.zig, mouse.zig, gui.zig, detached/*.
| | * Crt, Ripple and Glitch take a level, 0 to 3, tunable at run timeGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Coordinator's request: `Crt 0..3` (likewise Ripple, Glitch), 0 off, `on` the default level 2 (the polished rewrite), `off` and a bare word as before. The level is one uniform (pardesLevel, beside pardesOpaque in the prefix's own block); each pass picks its constants by it. Level 3 is at least as strong as the old effects, measured as pixels changed by more than 8 in a channel against a plain frame: Crt 18.3% (old 17.4%), Ripple 11.1% (9.5%), Glitch 9.3% a frame (8.1%); Glitch's level raises how often it bursts as well as how hard. Config and ctl report `Crt 2` / `Crt off`. Shared files touched: ninep/ctl.zig (the report line). Not touched: pardes.zig, Messages.zig, mouse.zig, gui.zig, detached/*.
| | * Post chain: Shadertoy passes compiled by glslc; Crt, Ripple and Glitch ↵Gabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | rewritten as Shadertoy files Stage 9 of docs/render-pipeline.md. src/gui/Post.zig runs the chain over the finished frame: each pass reads the one before, ping-pong textures between, the last writes the window; an empty chain is the direct path. The prefix (shaders/post/prefix.glsl) is ghostty's uniform block, name for name and offset for offset (tested against a copy of its Uniforms, the selection colours by their GLSL names), at SDL GPU's bindings, y down. A user's file (Shader <path>) is compiled by glslc with compileGlsl's own flags on a thread of its own, taken in at the next loop step; errors name the file's own lines; a failed compile keeps the last good pipeline; glslc missing is said once. The bundled passes compile with the build, through the same prefix. Crt, Ripple and Glitch are Shadertoy files, rewritten: no barrel (input is identity, tested), everything in linear light and dithered, keyed to iTime. scene_effects, crt.zig and crt.frag.glsl are gone; the core keeps no clock for the chain. ShaderAnimation off|on|always drives redraw level A: the chain alone over the retained frame (34 us CPU a redraw, measured). Shared files touched: pardes.zig (nextWake loses the scene line, disableSceneEffects empties the chain, two tests), builtins.zig (one switch arm), ninep/ctl.zig (two switch arms), macos.zig (flags from the chain), gui.zig. Not touched: Messages.zig, mouse.zig, detached/*, host_io, tty.
| | * Move the frame into draw.zig and the transitions out of layout.zigGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Pure moves, no behaviour change. draw.zig holds the whole core frame in order: render, the pane, tag, header and notice painters it calls, and the character-effect composition (Pardes.render stays a declaration alias). Presentation.zig is the panel presentation state as a file struct, and animation.zig the easing curves, transition kinds, tracks and boxes, the character effects' sources and the generic displayed-value transition, all of which lived in layout.zig. layout.zig keeps only layout.
| * | ]f, mif and the other textobject keys use helix's own queriesGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | helix's textobjects.scm for pardes's grammars are vendored in vendor/queries under MPL-2.0, each with a header naming its source and what it inherits, inlined; a README says what is there and what is not. syntax.objectAt and objectNext run them over the file's kept parse, with their #eq? and #match? predicates, for ]f [f ]t [t ]a [a ]c [c ]T [T ]e [e ]x [x and mi/ma with f t a c T e x. erlang's and zig's queries do not compile against the grammar versions pardes builds and are left out; fortran, markdown and powershell have none in helix. A test replays sixteen Python and JSON cases whose results were taken from the installed hx, and another holds that every vendored query compiles. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
| * | gw labels the words in view and jumps to the one whose label is typedGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | helix goto_word: the words of two or more word characters between the view's first and last lines get two-letter labels, nearest the cursor first, one forward and one back in turn (modal.jumpWords). The next two keys choose one and select it, stretching the selection to it in select mode; any other key takes the labels away. The words live on Pane.jump, and renderBody paints their labels over the body's cells in the selection colours, the one change on the render side. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
| * | Z arms the view keys until Esc, and zm puts the cursor's column mid-viewGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Z is helix's sticky view mode: the z keys stay armed after each until Esc, which leaves the mode and does nothing else (no pane hop). zm is align_view_middle: an unwrapped view scrolls sideways so the cursor's column is in its middle. | * | Insert Ctrl-s commits an undo checkpoint mid-sessionGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | helix commit_undo_checkpoint: u after the insert session goes back to the text as it was at Ctrl-s, a second u to before the session. It pushes an undo snapshot where the session stands. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
| * | Alt-u and Alt-U undo and redoGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | helix's earlier/later walk its history tree by time; pardes's history is a line, where earlier and later are undo and redo, so the keys are aliases. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
| * | g. goes to where the last edit endedGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | helix goto_last_modification: every range moves to the end of the last change (the start of a deletion, the end of an insertion), extending in select mode. The position is kept on the Text in surface rows, set where setEditText hands a body its new text, so a terminal's typed text has one too and moves with its scrollback. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
| * | Alt-o, Alt-i and the other tree-sitter keys walk the file's syntax treeGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | helix's expand/shrink, previous/next sibling, all siblings, all children and parent-node end/start (Alt-o/up, Alt-i/down, Alt-p/left, Alt-right, Alt-a, Alt-I, Alt-e, Alt-b; Alt-n stays the new terminal) walk a whole-file parse the file keeps (File.node_tree), made on the first such key after an edit and reused until the next, never per key. syntax.walkNodes follows helix's TreeCursor over every node, anonymous ones included, and Alt-i goes back to what Alt-o grew from while the selection still holds it. The harness runs without grammars, so the cases prove the plain-text no-op; a test replays eleven JSON walks whose results were taken from the installed hx. | * | K and Alt-K keep or drop the ranges a regex matches in; Alt-: turns every ↵Gabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | range forward K and Alt-K share the s/S prompt, which now carries a mode rather than a split flag: a range stays when a match starts inside it (K) or when none does (Alt-K), the primary becomes the first, and keeping none leaves the selection as it was (helix keep_or_remove_matches). Alt-: is ensure_selections_forward. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
| * | Q records keys into a register and q types them again; . repeats the last insertGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Macro.zig keeps keys to be typed again. Q records into @ (or "<reg>) in helix's key notation until the next Q; q replays a register's keys count times through the modal handling, where Esc does not hop panes and Enter, Tab and Space neither look, execute nor open the leader. . replays the normal command that entered the last insert session once and what was typed in it count times (helix repeat_last_insert). a at the end of the text now adds the newline helix's append_mode does, which a terminal's text does not. helix-golf's invert_dictionary passes. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
| * | $ keeps the selections a shell command exits 0 on, and line end is glGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | $ was a second key for line end, which helix never meant: in helix it is shell_keep_pipe. It now arms the pipe prompt with a $ marker, runs the command once per range with that range's text on stdin, and keeps the ranges it exits 0 on; the primary stays if kept, else the last kept range takes over, and keeping none changes nothing. The runner's answer is all or nothing, so the command runs in a subshell whose status is echoed as its output. Line end stays on helix's own gl and End; the snapshots, tutor and docs that pressed $ for it press gl. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
| * | Registers hold a value per range, and "<reg> names oneGabriel Schneider39 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Registers.zig replaces the one yank buffer: every register keeps a value per range, y fills them in document order, and p, P, R and insert Ctrl-r put value i at range i, repeating the last (helix paste_impl). "<reg> names the register for the next command; _ swallows, # numbers the ranges, . is each range's text, % the file's name, / the last s/S pattern, and + and * are the system clipboard through the ClipYank and ClipPaste paths. SPC y now writes + alone, as helix's does. The acme chords and a paste into a terminal take the default register joined by newlines. The msel-yank-paste waiver is gone.
