The core owns the motion, as Lift: animation.CursorGlide keeps the focused
cursor's four corners on springs (leading corners at the flavour's pace x2.4,
trailing ones x follow, so a jump smears and collapses; a long jump bows by
the flavour's arc), sampled at each frame's own time. A step of a cell or
less, insert mode, a focus change and any scroll (a file's view, a
terminal's output) land at once; a snap lands a glide under way too. The
quad is clamped to the focused pane when drawn (never its springs). Chrome
carries it on the wire (cursor_glide: bit 1 a cursor, bit 0 gliding;
cursor_alpha; cursor_quad, grid cells; cursor_idle_ms): the GUI draws the
quad as an overlay in the cursor's colour, at 85% (70% on the long
flavours) rising to solid as it lands, and hides the cells' cursors while it
does: one or the other every frame. Only the focused cursor glides.
Blink (CursorBlink, on by default in pixel shells) is the shell's: from
cursor_idle_ms and when the frame arrived, solid while typing and 500 ms
after, 530 ms halves with 80 ms eased edges, solid after 10 s idle, and
never while the window is unfocused or minimized or on a virtual clock. An
edge redraws the last frame with no core render (level B, blink_redraws);
an attached GUI blinks from the same field without a frame per edge.
Tests: snaps a cell, glides a jump with smear and bow, arrives under a pixel
by 150 ms on smooth and lands exactly, shifts with a scroll; blink holds,
eases, stops; the core glides a jump (ge) frame by frame (gliding exactly
while it moves, alpha rising, exact at rest), snaps a step (j) and a switch
to insert mid-glide; a terminal's scrolling output lands its cursor; wire
round-trip of the cursor record.

Bare Placement and BootShell flip, which is pardes's convention for a word
that chooses (Crt does too), but nothing said so, and "bad value in control
message" never said what would do. A refused value now says `takes acme,
pardes` (every switch and choice setting), /commands lists each such
setting's values in a fourth field, and config.md and fs.md say that bare
steps to the next. Motion and ShaderAnimation stepped nowhere bare and now
step like the rest.

The flavours looked alike because Lift, the only motion that read them,
moves a shadow a few pixels: overshoot and wind-up were sub-pixel. By design
now: crisp leaves at full speed and never passes its mark; smooth (the
default) eases in and out in twice crisp's time, a slide arriving in 208 ms
(inside §8.1's 220); bouncy passes its mark by ~30% and settles twice;
playful winds up, passes by ~40%, and stretches and squashes, text included
(the user's choice). Small motions are exaggerated by the flavour's gain.
Motion gains launch, gain, span and norm, and ease(u)/speed(u) for moves of
fixed length. The notice drop follows ease() over its fall (alpha never
behind its position) and stays inside its pane's body past its row. Panel
tracks carry the flavour in Track.motion (the old padding byte; macOS header
name follows); opening and moving slides, zooms and rises follow it over
span x their frames; landed, a pane is exactly its target; closing keeps
its own exit. A pane past its mark never takes a neighbour's click; a
rising one stays in its box.
Tests: each flavour's lift trajectory distinct; flavour character; exact
landing bit for bit; a stretched pane's drawn cells map back; the overshoot
hit rule; the vertical clip at peak; legacy tests pinned to crisp. GUI
golden 18-mid-transition changes (the retuned smooth slide at frame 6).

rules
acme takes plan9port's own colours (acme.c iconinit, draw.h): selections
#eeee9e in the body and #9eeeee in the tag, black ink; exec and look sweeps
#aa0000 and #006600, white ink; a #99994c scrollbar under a #ffffea thumb;
black rules; a #8888cc tag/body rule and column button.
Every theme: the grip is acme's button, its tag row's full height, in one
scroll column with the scrollbar (rail_px, 12 at a 17px tagline, scaled,
times GripWidth, a percent, default 150; same x0/x1 to the pixel):
focused clean = solid box; focused dirty = box_dirty filled to a box ring
(acme's modbutton); unfocused clean = a box_border ring round the tag's
ground; unfocused dirty = box_dirty a pixel inside that ring. The grid, which
has no ring, marks dirty with a bold * on box_dirty in the grip's second cell
and fills an unfocused grip halfway to its ring. Regions carry a dirty flag.
Column buttons are the same shape, solid. 2px rules between columns and
stacked panes (inside the tag band's slack), none at the window edge; a 1px
tag/body rule halfway between tag and page.
Theme data: tag_sel_bg, sweep_bg/fg, tag_rule, rule_px, rail_px, box_border,
box_dirty. Chrome: rule_px, tag_rule, rail_px, grip_border, grip_focus_ring;
a comptime guard on Chrome's layout forces a wire bump once v8 ships.
Structural rules are exempt from the focus-indicator rule (docs/effects.md).
Tests: acme widths; stacked rule in the slack at two tagline sizes; every
grip-column pixel is band, button, ring or rule, and the button shares the
scrollbar's x0/x1 (4 metrics x top/bottom x focus x dirty); the four grip
states distinct in every native theme with a non-colour dirty cue in the
grid; wire round-trip of the new fields.

recedes the other panes (InactiveDim)
Motion off|crisp|smooth|bouncy|playful is one parameter set (animation.Motion)
every fx animation reads. One focus spring per pane drives both the lift and
the dim, at the flavour's pace; a grid snaps.
Lift drops glow and surface. A shadow falls on pane bodies and rails only,
capped so text and the selection keep min(contrast, 4.5); rim is a hairline
along the focused tag's top. auto is a shadow on a light page; on a dark page
the core recedes the unfocused panes' text (InactiveDim, ported from 2e4d97f,
default 30 under auto) with the same floor. Tests: focused text contrast is
never below unfocused in any style, dim or theme; the focused pane's cells and
tag are untouched by a dim.

The user wants Lift to read on dark themes, where a shadow has nothing to
darken. `Lift shadow|surface|rim|glow|auto` (`on` is auto, bare flips
auto and off): surface lightens the lifted part's ground about 5.5%
(Material-dark), rim is a thin soft light off its top and left edges,
glow a faint halo in the theme's accent (Chrome.accent, the focused box
colour), auto a shadow on a light page and surface with half a rim on a
dark one (by the page's luminance). Rim and glow are the soft kernel in a
light colour (no pre-warp: coloured light is laid on as is, within §8.2's
budget); each style is capped per theme so text keeps min(its contrast,
4.5) (tests: darkening and lightening over the native themes). The style
travels in the palette (Chrome.lift_style, one byte on the wire). Config
reports and ctl reads `Lift <style>`.
Shared files touched: config.zig, builtins.zig, ninep/ctl.zig,
detached/wire.zig (palette byte), gui.zig. Not touched: pardes.zig,

`Lift` (a GUI toggle, capability lift) lifts the focused pane on a
critically damped spring (animation.Spring: closed form, about 240 ms to
settle, velocity kept across retargets, settled = no frames) and floats
notices. The core puts the lift on the regions (Region.lift, on the wire);
the GUI casts from it: a soft shadow is decor, an erf rectangle on one
quad grown by 3 sigma (decor.frag, flag 0x10000000), in the quad's own
space so a track's transform carries it; darken-only, the caster's rect
left alone, alpha pre-warped for linear light and IGN-dithered. Cast last
in its group, so a neighbour's rails and rules darken with its text; a
notice's before its rule. Strength is capped per theme so text over the
darkest shadow keeps min(its contrast, 4.5) (test over the native themes).
Opt-in until the focus lift/dim default is decided. Feel review material:
docs/effects.md. Test-mode PARDES_TEST_SERIES keeps every captured frame.

detached/wire.zig (lift on the region), config.zig, builtins.zig

makenewwindow puts them
Newcol makes an empty column; closing a column's last pane leaves it empty with
the keyboard on its tag; Delcol and Joincol alone take a column away; the
session's last pane closing quits. The +New stand-in and replaceStillborn /
stillborn_joiner are gone. Every new pane goes through exec.placeNew, which
follows acme's makenewwindow (active column, empty column whole, blank space,
halving the biggest) or, with Placement pardes, the old rules. ColumnTags is
gone: column tags are always shown. A grip drag shows acme's box cursor.

one undo step
Over 9P a rename everywhere was a loop of addr and data writes. Edit, from a tag, a pane ctl or exec, parses sam's commands as acme's edit.c does and runs them as ecmd.c does against the text as it was, collecting the changes in order as elog.c logs them and applying them at once: addresses (the addr file's, line:col included), x y g v c a i d s p = m t, u alone, and { }. One undo step; any error, in acme's words, changes nothing, fails a ctl write and is logged. p and = print to the directory's +Errors. Left out, and said: the file commands, the pipes, \1-\9 (mvzr keeps no submatches), and changes out of sequence, which acme applies with a warning.

step its body
Over 9P there was no way to take back an edit: acme's Undo and Redo were keys only. They are now pane builtins, reached from a tag, a pane ctl and exec, and listed in /commands. They are not added to the default tags, which would change every tag.

The user tried them live and wants them removed entirely: the builtins,
their levels, config keys and leader paths (tR, tg), their slots in the
built-in chain, their shaders (source and prebuilt), EffectCode paths, and
on macOS their scene flags (pardes.h), the Metal kernel's coordinate warps
and the Swift pointer mapping that mirrored them. Docs say so (decision 8
in docs/render-pipeline.md); config.md documents Crt's levels, Shader and
ShaderAnimation instead.

Coordinator's request: `Crt 0..3` (likewise Ripple, Glitch), 0 off, `on`
the default level 2 (the polished rewrite), `off` and a bare word as
before. The level is one uniform (pardesLevel, beside pardesOpaque in the
prefix's own block); each pass picks its constants by it. Level 3 is at
least as strong as the old effects, measured as pixels changed by more
than 8 in a channel against a plain frame: Crt 18.3% (old 17.4%), Ripple
11.1% (9.5%), Glitch 9.3% a frame (8.1%); Glitch's level raises how often
it bursts as well as how hard. Config and ctl report `Crt 2` / `Crt off`.

rewritten as Shadertoy files
Stage 9 of docs/render-pipeline.md. src/gui/Post.zig runs the chain over
the finished frame: each pass reads the one before, ping-pong textures
between, the last writes the window; an empty chain is the direct path.
The prefix (shaders/post/prefix.glsl) is ghostty's uniform block, name
for name and offset for offset (tested against a copy of its Uniforms, the
selection colours by their GLSL names), at SDL GPU's bindings, y down.
A user's file (Shader <path>) is compiled by glslc with compileGlsl's own
flags on a thread of its own, taken in at the next loop step; errors name
the file's own lines; a failed compile keeps the last good pipeline;
glslc missing is said once. The bundled passes compile with the build,
through the same prefix.
Crt, Ripple and Glitch are Shadertoy files, rewritten: no barrel (input is
identity, tested), everything in linear light and dithered, keyed to iTime.
scene_effects, crt.zig and crt.frag.glsl are gone; the core keeps no clock
for the chain. ShaderAnimation off|on|always drives redraw level A: the
chain alone over the retained frame (34 us CPU a redraw, measured).
Shared files touched: pardes.zig (nextWake loses the scene line,
disableSceneEffects empties the chain, two tests), builtins.zig (one switch
arm), ninep/ctl.zig (two switch arms), macos.zig (flags from the chain),

Pure moves, no behaviour change. draw.zig holds the whole core frame in
order: render, the pane, tag, header and notice painters it calls, and the
character-effect composition (Pardes.render stays a declaration alias).
Presentation.zig is the panel presentation state as a file struct, and
animation.zig the easing curves, transition kinds, tracks and boxes, the
character effects' sources and the generic displayed-value transition, all
of which lived in layout.zig. layout.zig keeps only layout.

helix's textobjects.scm for pardes's grammars are vendored in vendor/queries
under MPL-2.0, each with a header naming its source and what it inherits,
inlined; a README says what is there and what is not. syntax.objectAt and
objectNext run them over the file's kept parse, with their #eq? and #match?
predicates, for ]f [f ]t [t ]a [a ]c [c ]T [T ]e [e ]x [x and mi/ma with
f t a c T e x. erlang's and zig's queries do not compile against the grammar
versions pardes builds and are left out; fortran, markdown and powershell
have none in helix. A test replays sixteen Python and JSON cases whose
results were taken from the installed hx, and another holds that every
vendored query compiles.

helix goto_word: the words of two or more word characters between the
view's first and last lines get two-letter labels, nearest the cursor first,
one forward and one back in turn (modal.jumpWords). The next two keys choose
one and select it, stretching the selection to it in select mode; any other
key takes the labels away. The words live on Pane.jump, and renderBody paints
their labels over the body's cells in the selection colours, the one change
on the render side.

K and Alt-K share the s/S prompt, which now carries a mode rather than a
split flag: a range stays when a match starts inside it (K) or when none does
(Alt-K), the primary becomes the first, and keeping none leaves the selection
as it was (helix keep_or_remove_matches). Alt-: is ensure_selections_forward.

times through the modal handling, where Esc does not hop panes and Enter,
Tab and Space neither look, execute nor open the leader. . replays the
normal command that entered the last insert session once and what was typed
in it count times (helix repeat_last_insert). a at the end of the text now

$ was a second key for line end, which helix never meant: in helix it is
shell_keep_pipe. It now arms the pipe prompt with a $ marker, runs the
command once per range with that range's text on stdin, and keeps the ranges
it exits 0 on; the primary stays if kept, else the last kept range takes
over, and keeping none changes nothing. The runner's answer is all or
nothing, so the command runs in a subshell whose status is echoed as its
output. Line end stays on helix's own gl and End; the snapshots, tutor and
docs that pressed $ for it press gl.

Registers.zig replaces the one yank buffer: every register keeps a value per
range, y fills them in document order, and p, P, R and insert Ctrl-r put
value i at range i, repeating the last (helix paste_impl). "<reg> names the
register for the next command; _ swallows, # numbers the ranges, . is each
range's text, % the file's name, / the last s/S pattern, and + and * are the
system clipboard through the ClipYank and ClipPaste paths. SPC y now writes
+ alone, as helix's does. The acme chords and a paste into a terminal take
the default register joined by newlines. The msel-yank-paste waiver is gone.

helix-golf's enumerate_and_align ends on %s |\d+<ret>&. align_selections
treats the k-th range of each line as column k and puts spaces before each
range until its head reaches the widest head of its column, measured in
display cells, which File.rawDisplayCol already gives. A range over several
lines refuses, as in helix. The example itself still needs more than 64
ranges, which the selection model does not hold.

helix-golf swaps keys and values with rotate_selection_contents (webS_to_
<ret><A-(>, then per line). Each range's text moves to the next range (the
previous one for Alt-(), in one edit; a count rotates by that many ranges,
each range comes back over the text it now holds in its own direction, and
the primary follows its text. That is the harness's helix; 25.07.1 read the
count as a group size and left the primary alone.

helix-golf's text_into_array turns lines into an array with %<A-s>ms"<A-J>i,:
join_selections_space joins like J and leaves one cursor on each space it
inserted. J and Alt-J now make one edit over every range, as helix does,
rather than J being replayed per range; that is what lets Alt-J hand back
all the spaces as the new selection.

language's files
Repl python in a terminal's tag or on its ctl binds it (Repl - unbinds, Repl
bare says the binding, the same word again changes nothing), with an id,
python-a, python-b, in its tag. An exec made by a gesture on the body of a
file in that language -- a middle click or the execute key, on any text, a
single word too -- or on the REPL's own body is typed into it, bracketed if
its program asked for that, else line by line with a once-said warning for
Python's blank lines, then Enter; the message row says -> python-a in the
tag's name tint, the log send <from> <to> <id>. Several bound for the
language: the pane asks which on its notice band, as Del asks, one key
answering, Esc none, nothing remembered. The gesture is known where it is
dispatched (mouse.zig, the execute key), so the tag's words, Exec <text> run
by name and a command word @`cmd` stay commands, and a 9P exec is never
sent. A finished command pane is no REPL; bindings are not dumped. The docs
spell out the escapes, the pdb and input() caveat and the no-bracketed-paste
papercut.

shell's prompt
A middle click, an exec write or a tag word that no builtin knows was typed
into some terminal for the pane's directory, sharing whatever state that
shell was in and answering nothing, so a misspelling vanished into a shell.
Now only a line clicked at an interactive terminal's prompt is typed there.
From anywhere else it runs as a command pane: a terminal whose child is
$SHELL -c the line in the pane's directory, full emulation, which shows its
output and then exit N from the host's reaping of the child, and stays. A
finished command pane is the next command's for its directory, which runs
below what it showed after a '% line' line (acme appends to +Errors and never
clears it, util.c:213); a running one gets a second pane. Kill ends a command
pane's whole process group, the log records run and exit, exec reads back the
command pane's serial, and a line is at most 1 KB, read off the pane as the
host forks rather than carried in every spawn effect. ttyForDir's search for
a free shell is gone. The goldens of chordcut, cmdword and layout-open change
where a file's exec now opens a command pane, and ttytaken is rewritten to
exec from the terminal itself; docs/open-questions.md records the decision.

Kill quit the editor, which in acme is Exit; acme's Kill stops the
commands it started. Exit now quits as acme's does (exec.c, rowclean):
it refuses once, naming each pane with unsaved text, and quits when
asked again with nothing edited since (a small scratch is not asked
about). Kill, bare or with names, stops the commands pardes typed into a
terminal (an exec, a middle click, a pty/run) while their shell's marks
say they run, by SIGTERM to the terminal's foreground job, never to the
shell (acme posts the kill note, which terminates). Both are session
builtins; the topbar's Kill becomes Exit, same width, and every golden's
topbar row changed by exactly that word (checked line by line); the
builtins script scrolls one more row for the index's new line.

and reads the settings, a pane's ctl its own
Every builtin could only be clicked, or written to exec, and the settings
could be read only as the Config window's prose. acme keeps window verbs on
a window's ctl, and webfs and upas/fs keep session settings on a root ctl.
Each builtin now declares its scope (scope = .session; settings are all
session, the rest pane), read by the registry. The root /ctl takes session
builtins and reads every setting in the words a write takes, so its read
written back changes nothing (panel and scene effects now take on/off like
the toggles, to make that true); a pane's ctl takes the pane's builtins
beside get, lock and unlock. Writes are checked whole and refused in Plan
9's ctl words (unknown control message "X", wrong #args ...), which 9ns
now maps to EINVAL (cloud9 re-pinned at a8c7a715). A builtin that would
prompt for its argument fails the write instead, and a refusal is answered
at once, not after the frame.

The headers had their own one-line editor with its own keys: Enter always
executed, h/l and J/K moved between headers and panes, Ctrl-c/x/v cut and
pasted, and TagLine refused a newline that 9P accepted. They are now Texts
like a pane's tag, with no prefix and a default until edited, so normal and
insert mode, undo and the look and execute keys are the body's. Moving
between them is the window keys' job: Up from a pane with nothing above it
reaches its column's tag and then the workspace's, Down comes back, and
Left and Right walk the column tags.

acme keeps what edits a text in its Text (dat.h:171-190) and the window
holds a body and a tag of that type. The cursor, the selections, the modal
state and the edit-buffer undo move off Pane into Text.zig, Pane holds
them as its body, and the edit and normal-mode operations take the Text
they edit. Nothing changes in behaviour; this is the step that lets the
tag become a second Text.

The SDL shell shapes words with HarfBuzz, so a font's `->` and `!=` draw as
ligatures, and there was no way to have the plain glyphs back short of
changing font. `Ligatures` is a toggle, on by default; off, no cell goes to
the shaper and every cell draws its own glyph, exactly as a font without
ligatures does.
It exists only where it means something. A new `ligatures` capability, true
for the gui shell alone, gates it like Font and WindowOpacity are gated: it is
not a builtin elsewhere, has no leader path, and Config does not list it,
rather than print a row the TTY could never change. macOS draws CoreText
ligatures of its own, but nothing there reads the setting, so it stays off
there. The table check that kept every toggle unconditional now lets the
ligatures toggle, and only it, carry a capability, and requires that it
carry `ligatures`; every other setting's rule is as it was.
The gui keeps the setting beside its text caches, which were resolved under
it: when the core's value changes, the per-codepoint cells (which record
whether a cell is shaped) and the shaped words are dropped, and the frame the
toggle asked for draws every cell again. The atlas keeps its glyphs: plain
ones draw either way, and a ligature's strip is reused when it comes back.

Del takes a side: `Del k` gives the closed pane's rows to the nearest
expanded pane above it, `Del j` to the one below, each falling back to the
other side when it has none. DelAbove and DelBelow are those two lines, with
no path of their own under SPC.
A bare Del started from a key -- SPC d, Enter on the tag word, a row run from
an output buffer -- on a pane with expanded panes both above and below asks
instead of guessing. The question is a prompt like Save's or a search's
(Pane.Prompt.del_side), so it is painted on the pane's notice band by the
same path, and the next key answers it before any mode sees it: k or Up,
j or Down, anything else keeps the pane, as does a click. Only a key press
sets Pardes.can_ask, so a click, a 9P ctl or event write, a startup line, a
restore and a shell exiting all close the pane at once, the rows going
where layout.absorbVWeight has always sent them. A collapsed pane is not
asked about (it has only a tag row to give), and collapsed neighbours are
passed over (layout.expandedNeighbor, which Collapse now uses too).
removePane and absorbVWeight take the recipient; every other caller passes
null. Three scripts that closed a middle pane with SPC d answer k, which
is where the rows went before, and their goldens are unchanged. delask.snap
covers the question, Esc, j, a clicked DelBelow and a clicked Del.

PDF highlights (hover preview, search, selection) are baked into page rasters,
and any change re-rendered the whole page with MuPDF; the TTY then re-sent it
as base64 (4.7 MB a page), the GUI as a new texture. Worse, a pointer motion
over a PDF invalidated the page even when no preview was shown, so every
motion paid that. Now:
- A raster whose baked highlight set equals the wanted one is left alone.
- A highlighted page keeps its clean rows (before highlights and tint); a
change repaints only the rows of quads that differ, running MuPDF's
highlight pass (pardes_pdf_paint_highlights) over those clean rows and
tinting them: the operations a full render performs, so the pixels are
identical. MuPDF band renders are NOT bit-identical to a whole page (edge
rows, resampled images), so they are never used to patch; the comment
claiming otherwise is corrected.
- ImagePlace.patch hands shells the changed rows; the GUI uploads just those
rows into the texture it holds.
- The TTY probes kitty shared memory (t=s) with an id vaxis never reaches and
sends rasters as a /dev/shm name when the terminal reads it; direct base64
otherwise (ssh).
- Shells that take row patches (GUI, TTY with shm) repaint a selection while
it is dragged instead of only on release.
Latency elsewhere:
- TTY: an animating frame no longer sleeps 16 ms blind; a tick thread posts
into the input queue, so input inside the frame is handled at once.
- TTY and GUI: queued pointer motions coalesce to the last.
- GUI: a skipped swapchain image re-arms the frame (3 retries); animations
still tick while nothing presents.
- Editing: the line index is carried across an edit instead of rebuilt from
a scan of the whole file per keystroke.
Messages fall into their row (ease-in; the GUI slides the band out from under
the tagline, a terminal fades it), stay until the next input as before, linger
MessageLinger ms (default 800), and dissolve (ease-out). MessageAnimation
toggles it; both are settings, in Config and startup files. The snapshot
harness pins the old behaviour. The detached server now ticks animations.
A restored terminal comes back live: the old screen and scrollback (dumped
as clean VT by ghostty's formatter, replayed at the new size; older dumps
fall back to their rendered text), a dim
"restored history" marker, then a new shell in the directory it was in.
Right-click on a line number in a file pane looks at that line (a sticky
context header's number included).
Measured with an external pty driver (TTY), an in-process fence trace
(GUI, PARDES_TEST_LATENCY), and test/pdf_pointer_bench.zig (pixel identity
against the baseline and a whole-page oracle); balanced A/A/B rounds, paired
per-round statistics.
Messages stack: each event gets its own row and its own fall, linger and
dissolve; a line keeps its row until it leaves and a new one fills the first
free row. Announcements and statuses are replaced in place, not stacked.
MessageFall, MessageDissolve and DumpDir are settings Config reports.

A message, a leader chord and a prompt used to share one row of body text at
the bottom of a pane, wearing the tagline font and nothing else about a
tagline. Now each one is a TagLayer of its own, emitted through the same
renderHeaderLayer the pane and column tags go through, so it gets the tagline
height, the small-font metrics, the band offset and the border for free --
none of which a body-grid row can have by changing its font role. The text is
right aligned. The prompt stays on the canonical grid because it owns a
cursor, and a cursor has to sit on a real cell.
The body starts BELOW the bands rather than under them, the way tree-sitter
context rows already worked. Pane.body_offset is how many rows they took and
Pardes.bodyTop(pane, rect) is the one place that answers "where does the body
begin" -- replacing fifteen copies of `if (tag_bottom) r.y else r.y + BOX_H`
spread across the paint, hit-test, scroll, PDF and image paths, which is what
let the bands and the text under them come adrift. Every notice is painted on
the grid as well, because the grid is what a terminal client draws and a band
it cannot see is a message it never gets; the GUI skips grid cells a tag layer
covers, so nothing is drawn twice.
Three bugs the bands exposed, fixed here:
- a prompt band flush with the right edge put its caret one column past the
pane, which the detached wire refuses -- so every frame was dropped for as
long as the prompt was open. The band now reserves that column.
- a click on a band mapped to Sel row 0, which is the TAG row: clicking
chrome expanded a word out of the tagline and ran it as a builtin.
- a watched file reloading under the editor changed the core without going
through update, so needs_frame was never set and the reload was never
drawn. Pardes.invalidate() is the name for that, and the file and theme
reloads call it.
A session can now drive its own 9P namespace instead of being refused one:
ownMountSuffix answers what a path names inside this editors own tree and
resolve, readLimit and write serve it from memory rather than making the
syscall that never returns. The match is anchored to whole components under
the registrys 9p/pardes/<name>, because a bare /pardes/<name> anywhere in a
string would claim ~/src/pardes/<name>/README -- and, before write learned the
same trick, write the trees bytes over the real file. readFileLimit and
writeFile refuse instead, having no core to answer from.
A toggle setting SETS when given `on` or `off` and only flips when it is bare,
so the report LocationsConfig prints can be fed back as configuration and mean
what it says.
Snapshots: 97/98, from 0/98. The goldens were several commits stale and 17
scripts had stopped running; `config <line>` is a new script command that
appends to the per-script startup config, so a script that clicks body
coordinates pins `Verbose off` instead of counting the rows an announcement
moves. nested-optout is left failing on purpose: two levels of nesting prepend
vaxis F3 codepoints to typed lines, which is a real bug and is written down in
docs/divergences.md with a repro.

Pty children are exec'd with their own TERM/COLORTERM/TERM_PROGRAM instead of
inheriting a .app launch's empty environment, and ttyTaken finally answers on
darwin — libproc walks the tty's foreground process group — so Escape reaches
the child and Exec stops believing every pane sits at its prompt. The
occupancy suite runs on both platforms now.
The workspace tag row moves into the native menu bar as a Builtins menu.
-Dworkspace-tag (default off for -Dplatform=macos, on everywhere else) drives
it, and Pardes.topBarHeight replaces the TOPBAR_H constant so the core stops
reserving the row.
The view pins every variable-font axis to the file's own default (Maple Mono
came up Thin otherwise), shapes ligatures, carries per-shape pointer cursors,
and draws the look-hover affordance as refracted glass. Tag rows fill edge to
edge, with the anchor box painted back on top of that fill and its mode glyph
centred on the same square. Theme accents re-saturated across the set.

The 9P tree stops being a command language wearing a filesystem. /new
created a pane as a side effect of a *read*; it is now Tcreate in /pane,
with Tremove to close, which cloud9's engine has always supported and the
editor never declared: tree.zig now says
`features = .{ .create = true, .remove = true }`. Eleven pane ctl verbs
become files that can be read as well as written -- dot, limit, dirty,
mark, scroll, look, exec -- leaving ctl with `get`, the one verb no file
would say better. Root /ctl splits into a read-only /status and the
/look and /exec files whose write IS the click. stat carries real sizes
where it used to answer 0, and qid versions track a pane's revision, so a
client can poll for change without re-reading the body.
Commit a624a56 moved raw-tty keys to an early-return branch that knew only
Ctrl-B and bare Escape, and in the same edit deleted the paste branch below
it. That cost Shift-Escape (the unconditional way out of tty mode) and both
paste chords: Ctrl-V and Ctrl-Shift-V reached the child as keystrokes, so an
agent CLI running in a pane took Ctrl-V for its image-paste binding and
answered "No image found in clipboard". Both are restored, with tests.
Nested detection was not subtly broken but deleted: 60367d8 removed
nested.zig's process-ancestry walk and left "am I inside pardes" derived from
PARDES_FORWARD_LOOK, which read "0" both for --nested and for "the listener
did not come up". PARDES_PID now answers that question on its own, checked
with kill(pid, 0); PARDES_9P and PARDES_PANE answer how to reach it; the flag
is gone. The posted-9P registry also self-heals now -- a session that aborts
cannot unlink its own socket, so posting sweeps entries whose target refuses
a connection, symlinks only and on a definite ECONNREFUSED only.
Elsewhere: tty scrolling is sticky-bottom, following new output only from
the last row, with typing and entering raw mode snapping back to live; the
boot layouts are a Boot enum instead of a chain of ifs, and the bare tty
startup (Boot.tty, which main.zig names) opens an empty text pane under the
shell while tests keep Boot.tty_shell; builtins announce themselves on the
message row under a Verbose setting that is on by default; Config prints
each setting the way you would type it back, so WindowOpacity 70 rather than
"WindowOpacity: 70%"; LocationsConfig opens its window only when called bare;
every tagline puts the word that closes the thing last, and a column now
outlives its panes -- closing the last one leaves an empty pane, and only
Delcol, newly on the column tagline, takes the column away.
