| * Config opens the startup file, DumpConfig the settings report, and the ↵Gabriel Schneider30 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | workspace tag reads Dump Themes Config Debug Exit Config (SPC f c) opens init, found as the settings report finds it (opts.startup_config_path: $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/pardes/init or ~/.config/pardes/init, and the macOS and Windows paths config.md gives). A pane that already holds it is gone to instead; a file on disk is looked at; with none, an empty pane is named for it, and Save makes its directory and any above it first (File.make_dirs, fs.makeDirs) before writing. Without a configuration directory it says so and opens nothing. The report Config used to open, the startup path and every live setting, is DumpConfig, in a +DumpConfig pane. No alias keeps the old meaning. The workspace tag's default words put Themes where NextColor was, NextColor staying a builtin, and Config beside it. A tag the user edited is kept as it was: a dump stores only an edited one (topbar_custom), and a restore puts back only that. theme.snap types NextColor onto the workspace tag to click it, and tagnav's walk back to Dump takes five long-word steps. The rest of the re-recorded goldens differ in the workspace words and their widths only. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* | Zig files go to zls as a child process through the protocol client, as every ↵Gabriel Schneider30 hours
|/ | | | | | | | other language does: the in-process ZLS backend goes lsp_zls.zig (1,522 lines), the zls dependency, build.zig's zls wiring and the import graph it baked into the options only for it, and main.zig's reference go. lsp_client's table gains a zls row (PARDES_LSP_ZIG overrides it); Hover, Rename, Diagnostics, WsSymbols, Lspinfo and gd answer through it (checked with lspprobe and the snapshots against zls 0.16.1-dev). What changes for a user: zls must be on PATH; a completion's rows are zls's candidates at the cursor, where the linked analyser gave each one's declaration; document symbols carry no signature. The Zig snapshots (lsp, lspcomplete, lspcompletemoved, lspdebug, lsprelpath) run the real zls now: lspdebug reads the client's explain and report, lsprelpath spells gr's rows where it spelled a completion's, and their goldens are recorded again (stable over three runs). Lspinfo still opens with its backend line. The ReleaseFast tty binary is 105.35 MB to 96.28 MB, the Debug one 296.5 MB to 245.9 MB. docs/lsp.md, web.md, design.typ and the README say so. * Rules and chrome scale with the display's density; dark pages get visible ↵Gabriel Schneider30 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | separators and focus tints Density: dp() in gui.zig draws every size given in pixels in logical pixels (SDL's window display scale, rounded, at least one), as acme scales Border, ButtonBorder and Scrollgap: the rules (rule_px), the tag rule, the grip's ring, its dirty gap and mode bars, the rail's gap to the text and its minimum, the thumb's inset, the rim, a bar cursor's minimum width, underline and strikethrough thickness (the atlas is dropped on a scale change), the rule-grab margin, and the Crt's scanline and mask periods (pardesScale in the post prefix). Cell- and tagline-measured sizes stay: the rail's width, Lift's blur and offsets, every motion; iResolution, fragCoord and iMouse stay in the display's pixels, as ghostty's. PARDES_TEST_SCALE forces a density in a harness (a test window is 1x otherwise, whatever display it lands on) and sizes the test font with it. Colours: a separator that stands off its page by less than 1.5:1 is lifted toward the text to 1.6:1 (helix, atelier, paper; a theme with no page, dark, is judged against #121212), and empty_col follows it. forge's own rule already stands at 3.83:1; what hid it was density: 2 device pixels on a 3x screen, now 6 (dp). A focused tag's tint closer than 1.5:1 to the plain tag on a dark page (1.25:1 on a light one) is pushed further the way it leans, as far as its text keeps its own contrast or 4.5: forge 1.23 -> 1.51 (#2d3440 -> #374253), and likewise dusk, orchard, ink, lagoon, clay, harvest, spectrum, solarium, forge_soft; daybreak, atelier, paper to 1.25. dark and helix gain a tint of their own (dark: #484566 under #c8c8c8, 1.54:1; helix: ramp 237 under 250, 1.65:1). Tag caret: past a full row's end, the G3 glide box sits on the tag's right edge, where the layer's caret and the pixel shell's are. Tests: every native theme's separator >= 1.5 and every dark one has a tint >= 1.25 with readable text; forge keeps its own border; the tag caret glide box at a full row; at 2x the spine, tag rule, ring, rail start and gap, and bar cursor double. Legacy-ThemeFile test strips helix's new pair. Goldens: snapshot goldens change in colour rows only, the tints (orchard #283a2f -> #314738 at boot, forge, helix and dark in theme/themesel). GUI goldens: the harness's single Del of the renamed wide pane is refused since ysqnkyoy (a rename counted as unsaved; fixed on the 9P line in wkzlsqvy), so scenes 09-17 were recorded with that pane open and the file was stale since the merge (08 and 18 also moved with ykvnltvs's full-row tag wrap). The goldens here were recorded with that pane closed (as wkzlsqvy will close it); against the parent's binary under the same conditions they differ only in the tints: 01-13 forge's (#2d3440 -> #374253, and the glyph edges on it), 14 ink's; 15-18 are byte-identical. Until wkzlsqvy is merged, a run here fails 09-17. Each commit reproduces its own recorded goldens on this machine (checked at kvtmqkyn). A test window is 1x unless PARDES_TEST_SCALE says otherwise, whatever display it opens on. Prebuilt shaders refreshed from their sources. Captures: .scratch/render/dark-borders/{before,after,compare,scale2,scale3}.
* A pane's last row of text is no resize handle; the grip is, and the GUI's ruleGabriel Schneider30 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A press on a pane's last row began a seam drag, so the row could not be clicked or swept like the rest of the text (rsearch dragged the handle out of the way first). Now no row of text is a handle: in the GUI a press on the 2 px rule between two panes drags their seam, and anywhere the grip does, as acme's button moves a window -- dragged up or down its own column it moves the pane's top, either pane down to its tag alone (acme's coldragwin), dragged down inside itself too. The hover hint over a last row is gone; column edges resize as they did. Scripts that dragged a seam drag a grip instead and match their goldens; six goldens lost the hint or moved a cursor to the clicked text, re-recorded by name. | | * acme looks like acme; every theme gets acme's button, scroll column and 2px ↵Gabriel Schneider30 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | rules acme takes plan9port's own colours (acme.c iconinit, draw.h): selections #eeee9e in the body and #9eeeee in the tag, black ink; exec and look sweeps #aa0000 and #006600, white ink; a #99994c scrollbar under a #ffffea thumb; black rules; a #8888cc tag/body rule and column button. Every theme: the grip is acme's button, its tag row's full height, in one scroll column with the scrollbar (rail_px, 12 at a 17px tagline, scaled, times GripWidth, a percent, default 150; same x0/x1 to the pixel): focused clean = solid box; focused dirty = box_dirty filled to a box ring (acme's modbutton); unfocused clean = a box_border ring round the tag's ground; unfocused dirty = box_dirty a pixel inside that ring. The grid, which has no ring, marks dirty with a bold * on box_dirty in the grip's second cell and fills an unfocused grip halfway to its ring. Regions carry a dirty flag. Column buttons are the same shape, solid. 2px rules between columns and stacked panes (inside the tag band's slack), none at the window edge; a 1px tag/body rule halfway between tag and page. Theme data: tag_sel_bg, sweep_bg/fg, tag_rule, rule_px, rail_px, box_border, box_dirty. Chrome: rule_px, tag_rule, rail_px, grip_border, grip_focus_ring; a comptime guard on Chrome's layout forces a wire bump once v8 ships. Structural rules are exempt from the focus-indicator rule (docs/effects.md). Tests: acme widths; stacked rule in the slack at two tagline sizes; every grip-column pixel is band, button, ring or rule, and the button shares the scrollbar's x0/x1 (4 metrics x top/bottom x focus x dirty); the four grip states distinct in every native theme with a non-colour dirty cue in the grid; wire round-trip of the new fields. Shared files: src/colors.zig, src/surface.zig, src/body_layer.zig, src/tagline.zig, src/detached/wire.zig, docs/themes.md, docs/config.md, docs/effects.md, 21 snapshot goldens (the grip cells only), test/gui-goldens.txt. Motion flavours differ by design, and drive notice drops and pane moves
| * | Snapshots and GUI goldens run with the default Placement acmeGabriel Schneider30 hours
| |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | Their clicks follow the panes to where acme's placement puts them; doccol and splitparent stay on Placement pardes, which they cover. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
* / A tag no longer marks an unsaved file with *: the grip shows itGabriel Schneider30 hours
|/ | | | | | The grip button now shows a pane's unsaved text in every state, as acme's modbutton does, and acme's tag has no asterisk. The computed prefix is the name alone, so tag reads, event offsets that count the path and the tag's text lose the " *". dirty, index's flag and the refuse-once guards are unchanged; a dump from before still restores its tags past the old mark. * Exit quits and Kill stops commands, as in acmeGabriel Schneider30 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Kill quit the editor, which in acme is Exit; acme's Kill stops the commands it started. Exit now quits as acme's does (exec.c, rowclean): it refuses once, naming each pane with unsaved text, and quits when asked again with nothing edited since (a small scratch is not asked about). Kill, bare or with names, stops the commands pardes typed into a terminal (an exec, a middle click, a pty/run) while their shell's marks say they run, by SIGTERM to the terminal's foreground job, never to the shell (acme posts the kill note, which terminates). Both are session builtins; the topbar's Kill becomes Exit, same width, and every golden's topbar row changed by exactly that word (checked line by line); the builtins script scrolls one more row for the index's new line. * Look no longer announces itself on the message rowGabriel Schneider30 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A look's answer is the pane it opens or the place it jumps to; its own name on the message row was only noise over that. Look now declares `pub const quiet = true;`, like Msg, so runBuiltin skips the announcement. A registry test checks that Look is quiet and Del still announces. 23 snapshot goldens drop the "Look" chip from the message row and nothing else: chordcut find hscroll images jumps layout-open look-center look-dir look-file look-file-1col lookloaded lsp lsp-client lspcomplete lsprelpath psearch stepgrain syntax tag tagbottomimage tagnav ttylook ttytaken. Updated with --update --jobs=1 on exactly those scripts; every changed row, compared screen by screen against the old golden, differs only by the blanked chip (and its style runs), and two full snap runs after the update pass. * Notices become chips that float over the body, not rows taken from itGabriel Schneider30 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A notice is an overlay now, which is the one place it is NOT like the tree-sitter context: it takes no row from the body and moves no text. Each one is a chip as wide as its own message plus a blank cell either side, anchored to the pane right edge on the body top rows. The rest of each of those rows is ordinary body text that still reads and still answers a click -- Notices.left records where each chip starts, and the hit test refuses only the cells it covers rather than the whole row. The width is counted in GRID columns rather than scaled into the tagline face the chip is drawn in, because the canonical grid is what a terminal client draws and a chip narrower than its own text there would clip it; the narrower tagline face simply leaves a little more room inside the chip. The tag layer takes the geometry the grid pass already chose, so the two cannot disagree and the GUI skipping the cells a tag layer covers leaves no stub behind. Pane.body_offset is gone with the reservation it existed for, and bodyTop takes only a rect. The body layer keeps every row it had, the scrollbar runs the full body again, and the GUI smooth-scroll extents go back to the pane. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <[email protected]>
* Notices become tagline bands at the top of the bodyGabriel Schneider30 hours
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A message, a leader chord and a prompt used to share one row of body text at the bottom of a pane, wearing the tagline font and nothing else about a tagline. Now each one is a TagLayer of its own, emitted through the same renderHeaderLayer the pane and column tags go through, so it gets the tagline height, the small-font metrics, the band offset and the border for free -- none of which a body-grid row can have by changing its font role. The text is right aligned. The prompt stays on the canonical grid because it owns a cursor, and a cursor has to sit on a real cell. The body starts BELOW the bands rather than under them, the way tree-sitter context rows already worked. Pane.body_offset is how many rows they took and Pardes.bodyTop(pane, rect) is the one place that answers "where does the body begin" -- replacing fifteen copies of `if (tag_bottom) r.y else r.y + BOX_H` spread across the paint, hit-test, scroll, PDF and image paths, which is what let the bands and the text under them come adrift. Every notice is painted on the grid as well, because the grid is what a terminal client draws and a band it cannot see is a message it never gets; the GUI skips grid cells a tag layer covers, so nothing is drawn twice. Three bugs the bands exposed, fixed here: - a prompt band flush with the right edge put its caret one column past the pane, which the detached wire refuses -- so every frame was dropped for as long as the prompt was open. The band now reserves that column. - a click on a band mapped to Sel row 0, which is the TAG row: clicking chrome expanded a word out of the tagline and ran it as a builtin. - a watched file reloading under the editor changed the core without going through update, so needs_frame was never set and the reload was never drawn. Pardes.invalidate() is the name for that, and the file and theme reloads call it. A session can now drive its own 9P namespace instead of being refused one: ownMountSuffix answers what a path names inside this editors own tree and resolve, readLimit and write serve it from memory rather than making the syscall that never returns. The match is anchored to whole components under the registrys 9p/pardes/<name>, because a bare /pardes/<name> anywhere in a string would claim ~/src/pardes/<name>/README -- and, before write learned the same trick, write the trees bytes over the real file. readFileLimit and writeFile refuse instead, having no core to answer from. A toggle setting SETS when given `on` or `off` and only flips when it is bare, so the report LocationsConfig prints can be fed back as configuration and mean what it says. Snapshots: 97/98, from 0/98. The goldens were several commits stale and 17 scripts had stopped running; `config <line>` is a new script command that appends to the per-script startup config, so a script that clicks body coordinates pins `Verbose off` instead of counting the rows an announcement moves. nested-optout is left failing on purpose: two levels of nesting prepend vaxis F3 codepoints to typed lines, which is a real bug and is written down in docs/divergences.md with a repro. * clipboard, n/N and the tty prompt: three things that were half-wiredGabriel Schneider2026-08-12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Three changes that all turned out to be the same shape -- a feature that worked in one direction, or for one pane kind, and quietly did not in the others. CLIPBOARD. Every register write emitted set_clipboard, so deleting one character threw away whatever the desktop was holding; multi-cursor yank took the join's early return and emitted nothing at all, so the same key reached the clipboard on one cursor and not on two. Nothing could READ the clipboard: the SDL shell had no SDL_GetClipboardText anywhere in it, and the tty shell never asked for OSC 52, so `p` from another application was dead in both. Now it is helix's split. y/d/c/p/P/R and the acme chords are the DEFAULT REGISTER and nothing else; the system clipboard is five words on helix's own letters -- SPC y, SPC Y, SPC p, SPC P, SPC R -- spelled as builtins so they land in Help and are executable like every other verb. The one exception is the tag `y` chord, which still mirrors out because a tag is always insert, so SPC cannot be pressed there, and copying the path out is the whole point of the chord. Reading is a new read_clipboard effect answered by an ordinary Event.paste, so the round trip is honest about being one: SDL and NSPasteboard answer inside the same drain, the browser answers a promise, and a terminal answers over OSC 52 or -- far more often -- refuses. A refused read is a paste that does not happen, and the request dies at the next keystroke rather than landing minutes late in whatever pane is focused by then. The tty shell also enables BRACKETED PASTE now and coalesces paste_start..paste_end into one event. Before this a paste arrived as a flood of individual key presses: plausible in insert mode, and in normal mode every pasted character ran as a command. n/N. They stepped the armed results buffer and immediately Looked each row, so you could not walk past a hit without opening it. They are a MOTION now: select the next look-able text, open nothing, and let Enter decide. What they step is the largest whitespace-delimited run look.resolve can act on (look.lookableSpan, wrapper punctuation peeled), over a RING of panes -- every pane that has performed a look, most recent first, then the output buffers that have not, newest first, and only if both are empty the pane in front of you. N is the exact inverse of n, computed rather than remembered: both directions ask the same question about the same spans and compare against the column the walk parks on, so x presses one way and x back land exactly where you started, pane boundaries and the ring's seam included. A ring rather than a list with two ends because a shell's cursor sits at the prompt, below everything it has printed, so a walk that could not come round would have nowhere to go on the very first press -- which is the case n/N were written for. One motion everywhere, no pane-kind or buffer-kind special case. The only thing a buffer may change is the GRAIN of what a step selects, and it does it with one flag rather than a branch: output_pane.Traits.commands (renamed from `executes`, which named one reader's behaviour rather than the fact) makes a row select WHOLE, because a ThemeSel line is a word to run and has no path inside it to pick out. `]d`/`[d` are not n/N -- they are helix's diagnostic motions, their job is to ARRIVE, and they still reach searchStep. THE TTY PROMPT. Leaving raw tty blanked the prompt row, and the command you had typed at that prompt shares the row, so it went too -- a shell out of tty read as output only. OSC 133 marks the row CELL by cell, so the two are separable: config.tty_blank = .prompt cuts the prompt's own columns and leaves the command, left-hugged at column 0 in line with the output under it rather than in a bay of blanks. .prompt_and_input is the old behaviour, kept. Because the row is now something you can put a cursor in, enterTty adds the hidden prompt width back before asking ghostty to walk the shell's own cursor to it -- the modal column on a cut row is short by exactly that much. Verified: unit-test 186/186 (nine new), snap 87/87 (new ttyprompt.snap), hxdiff 481 and hxparity 561 with 0 mismatches, tty and gui both build. And against the real binaries rather than the harness: in a pty, SPC y emits OSC 52 carrying exactly the selection while plain y emits nothing, SPC p issues the read and pastes the reply, and a bracketed paste of "dd..." inserts text instead of deleting two lines. In a real SDL window, SPC y then SPC p round trips through the system clipboard while the default register holds different text. Setting tty_blank back to .prompt_and_input reproduces all 86 old goldens byte for byte.
